Need romantic golf location for anniversary surprise
 

My husband and I have a big anniversary coming up, and I would like to surprise him with a golf trip/romantic getaway weekend somewhere in the west. We live in Arizona and have lots of frequent flyer miles but I would like someplace within a 3 hour or so flight. I'm not a golfer, so I would welcome suggestions from any golfers out there.

Pebble Beach. No shortage of romantic B&B's in the area (Carmel, etc) and three of the best golf courses in the world.

A little further than 3 hours but--Litchfield Plantation, Pawley's Island SC.

Thanks, fedcarlo. Any particular golf course you would recommend? I looked at the Pebble Beach site and it looks both expensive and hard to book mid-June. Is it special enough to be worth the price?

Spyglass Hill is my favorite, although if your husband is a fan of the AT&T Pro-Am he might get a bigger kick out of playing Pebble Beach Links.

I steer clear of "special enough" or "worth it" questions, as they're judgment calls. But in my opinion Carmel is a great couples destination: golf courses keep the guys happy, and the B&B's/shops keep the gals happy.

Another over 3 hrs but Price Course in Princeville Kauai?

Since you're in AZ, what about a short hop down to some of the fine, new golf courses/resorts in the Cabo areas?

I've been looking into some as a Plan B if Kauai falls thru this year.

Another vote for Pebble Beach/Carmel area. Great golf for him and romance for you. It's a win/win situation here! We just returned from a two day trip to Carmel, very romantic. ***kim*** ((*))

I seldom see the words romance and golf in the same sentence, but heck, why not! If Pebble Beach is beyond what you want to spend, have a look at Bandon Dunes on the Oregon coast. Both (soon to be three) courses are good enough to be mentioned in the same breath as Pebble. There's very nice on-site lodging, with a couple decent dining options. While your husband's hooking tee shots into the ocean, you can spend time knocking around the quaint, small town of Bandon.

Well, my DH has always wanted to play at Pebble Beach, and the golfers comments here certainly confirm that choice, so I will look at Pebble Beach. Heck--it's our 20th anniversary, why not? Any recommendations on places to stay? I would enjoy being right at the beach if possible, and would prefer a B&B or Inn over a large resort.

Most B&B's in the town of Carmel are not right on the beach -- they're within a few small blocks. If you want to be closer, go outside Carmel a few miles (e.g. Tickle Pink Inn, which is wonderful). Many of these sit above the beach, with spectacular views.

The Broadmoor in Colorado Spings and a few days trip up Pikes Peak - gorgeous!
