Need restaurant recs quick around the Madison, in DC
 

Plans have changed, and we're now staying at the Madison this Wed & Thurs. So I need restaurant recs that are convenient to the Madison hotel. From searching, it doesn't look like there's much, but maybe you have some suggestions.

We had reservations, we thought, at L'Enfant Plaza, but when I called to confirm (with conf # and print out), they said they had no record and completely booked. So I booked at the Madison - it's far from the Metro station, but best I could do at the last minute. Don't even get me going about our reservations being lost - I gave them a piece of my mind, and I will address that formally with them when I'm not hustling to find lodging and food for the next few days.

We will not have our own transportation, will use the Metro.

So, where IS the Mdison?

The Madison is a beautiful hotel. The neighborhood is lowkey, but within a block or so from many fine neighborhoods with restaurants. It's within three/four blocks from McPherson Square and Farragut North and much more convenient than L'Enfant Plaza, which is dull.

1177 15th St NW, near M Street, looks to be across the street from the Washington Post and near National Geographic.

Mike, I have to admit I'm very pleased with the hotel. It's just the convenience of the Metro being underneath that we are losing. My daughter has to leave very early each morning for a conference at the Univ of Maryland. She's willing to make the Metro ride so I can be near all the sightseeing.

Any names of restaurants in that area that you'd recommend?

DC Coast, Pallette, 15 ria, Smith & Wollensky, Logan Tavern, Rice, Courderoy are all within a few blocks. Logan Circle, with a Whole Foods, is a few blocks away. You are a very short cab ride to Penn Quarter.

Thanks, Mike! I really appreciate your list. I am so excited to be staying where all the US Presidents have stayed since JKF (at least that's what the web site says), and it'll be so nice to have some restaurant recs too. :)
