Need recommendations for a Broadway/or Off play for April

We'll be in NYC in early April and would love to see a play. We prefer musicals and/or a commedy. We've seen Altar Boyz, Drousy Chaperone and loved them both. Any recommendations? Even though this is almost 6 months away, thought we'd try and choose something now to get good seats. Thank you.

Go to playbill.com. You can read brief summaries of all the shows.

Have you actually seen Young Frankenstein? I have read up on the various plays but much prefer to have personal recommendations. Thanks.

On ticketmaster they are currently just selling tickets for Y.F. through March (these went on sale in July) so it would seem that in August they would be selling tickets for the first week of April but not so. Any idea when these will be for sale?

The Producers fabulous, funny, musical excellent.

Sounds perfect for our taste! Now if I just knew when April tickets will go on sale. They've been selling tickets for March performances since July!

The Producers closed months ago.

JERSY BOYS!!!!!

I loved Wicked - saw it in L.A. - we are going to see Jersey Boys this coming Friday on Broadway - will let you know what I think.

I think now we have our heart set on Young Frankenstein. Just need to wait for April tickets to go on sale. Grrrrr! Nothing yet.

MFNYC: didn't know that, thanks.

Young Frankenstein hasn't officially opened yet. It's only now in previews. When it officially opens next month, tickets will immediately go on sale for April, assuming it doesn't get completely panned critically (which I doubt). I believe the official opening night is November 8. Buy your tickets for April on November 9 and expect to pay in excess of $120 per ticket if you really have your heart set on it. By the way, the cavernous Hilton theater has so many seats that it's important that you be somewhere closer to the front or bring your opera glasses.

Thanks Doug! I'll be ready to jump on Nov. 9th.

If you have a chance to see "Wicked," I would highly recommend it; we loved it. Not sure if it's still playing...

Wicked is just about the most popular continuing show on Broadway, one of the few that rarely offers regular discounts.

bugswife1 Oct 18th, 2007 05:50 AM

Seeing Young Frankenstein tonight. Will post review.

petlover Oct 18th, 2007 06:12 AM

Dang, wish we had time enought to see both Y.F. and Wicked but must choose just one.
Will await your review Bugswife.

"Wicked" was so entertaining - it's based on the Wizard of Oz - a prequel showing how all the characters came to be, how they met, etc. The "good" witch and "bad" witch start off as college roommates - it's really funny and poignant, and the music is great.

Bugswife, I look forward to tomorrow's post. I have tickets for Late January. There are some audience reviews here:
