Need recommendation for one week at a house with dogs

Hi - we are a couple traveling by car up from NYC to maine. We'd like to rent a house for a week during the summer so we can be with our dogs. Maine is a big state, so any ideas on where?

We're looking for quiet, preferably on the water so our dogs can run around. But not so remote that it's inaccessible to places for day trips.

any suggestions welcome. Thanks!!!

I like the Rockland/Camden area, and it's well situated for day trips.

http://www.camdenac.com/

The link above does have houses that allow dogs - just not sure what your budget is.

The internet has several sites dedicated to rentals and hotels that accept pets. One is www.petfriendlytravel.com. If you go to google and enter pet friendly rentals, you'll get several sites to check out that can be sorted by destination.

I like to use VRBO.com for dog-friendly rentals. Not all the listings excepts pets, but just look for the paw print to see the ones that do.

thanks. I've seen rentals all over Maine that accept dogs (btw i use homeaway.com)

Anyone know anything about the St George Peninsula?
Falmouth?
Damariscotta Lake/Boothbay?
Bayside in Northport?

Sorry for all the questions. As a california native, I've only gone as far north as upstate NY/catskills - and as you can see am clearly clueless about Maine

Cheers!

hi,
we have been spending a week in Maine each summer for the last 6 years. We are a couple with dogs and we have been narrowing down the area each year trying to get closer to the perfect setting for us. We have stayed in boothbay, camden, georgetown and bar harbor. this year we will be staying in bath at a vrbo house with 2 acres on a river. we felt like that would give the dogs room to swim and run and it is a very central location for us to make day trips from and do some hiking and hit the lobster pounds nearby....
we have found maine to be a great place to go with our dogs and everyone is always friendly and welcoming. i'd be happy to answer any more specific questions you might have. Good luck!
