Need reco's on where to stay, PLEASE!

Greetings, my wife and I are going to Maui at the Grand Wailea for one week in January for a work trip...we're bringing our two kids, 5 and 4.

Here are my questions:
1) If you were to stay another week, would you stay on Maui to relax/explore (I'll not have a LOT of time to do this during our first week) OR would you go to a new Island, and if so which one? I am inclined to stay and enjoy and explore Maui since this is our first Hawaii trip.

2) Whether it's stay on Maui or go to another Island, can you recommend some great places to stay w/ kids? I am on a more lean budget (under $200/nt, ideally more like $150) for my second week on my own. Reco's would be greatly appreciated.

1. Stay on Maui.
2. Consider a condo rental, in fact that's probably a necessity on your budget. Try I like Kaanapali area, have stayed at Noelani, The Mahana, Maui Kai, all have good points. Zillions of others to choose from; take a look at

You can also book condos thru' airline sites example

Needless to say, the choices are so many as to lead to data overload and PBA -paralysis by analysis

Good hunting

Definitely stay on Maui. There is plenty to do and since you won't have had much time to enjoy the island, there is no sense in wasting time and money heading off to another island. While we don't have children, we have been to Hawaii, mostly Maui, more times than I can recall. We LOVE it!!!

Since you will be at the Grand Wailea, you can easily relocate to a condo. in Kehei which is a stone's throw away. Check your newspaper or get on the internet for condo. deals. You can get a condo. in that area much less expensively than on the other side of the island. That way, you can take some of your meals in and, judging from the ages of your children, it will be much more condusive to your travels.

Activities abound for all ages and there are may beautiful sights and things to do. Again, click on to Maui activities and you will be inundated.

Have a terrific trip and don't forget the sunblock!!

You COULD stay on Maui for the second week, and have a wonderful time. However, I would go on to the Big Island or Oahu to enjoy other attractions if it were me. You can drive to Haleakala one morning on Maui, but I would not take kids that age on the car ride to Hana. There are SO MANY things to see and do on the other two islands ... I love Maui for just relaxing but if you're in the mood to see and do more, I'd switch to another island for a week. Of course, with little kids, maybe you want to just relax in one spot, and I understand that as well. Anyplace you stay, anytime in Hawaii, is good ...

If you have another week, I'd definitely try another island. The islands are all very different and have so much to offer. We've done Maui, Kauai, and BI. For us, Kauai had the most natural beauty and was our favorite. We did a helicopter tour of the Na Pali coast that was amazing; I think it's something your kids would never forget.

The Big Island was wonderful too; it has the Volcano National Park which is fun to explore; we got to hike out at night and see the lava flow into the ocean, but I wouldn't recommend doing that with young children - it's a looong hike out in the dark that's quite rocky and no bathrooms nearby.

On Maui, your kids might like to attend a luau - it's very touristy but still fun.
