Need quick NY theater seating help.
 

Can buy tickets for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Imperial Theater -- Row A, Center seats. Telecharge web site indicates these are "two rows from the stage" with their "generic seating chart" showing Rows AA and BB, then Row A. However, other Imperial seating charts show Row A as the very first row. Anyone know for sure? I think the Front Row will be a bit TOO close for this show, don't you? Might be better off in the Front Mezz.

Do you know how "raised" the stage is at the Imperial? I hate sitting down front and feeling like the stage is above me head.

NY theater goers, please help.

It is often a mystery from looking at the seating charts whether they have removed any rows from the front. But it is strange that all the other charts I looked at too show the first row as Row A. It is possible that they are even adding two rows at the front for this production -- maybe the orchestra is on stage and not in the pit for example. My suggestion has two purposes. Call Telecharge instead of using their website. They can accurately tell you if that row is the first or the third row for this production. Secondly have them look for other seats. If you can vary the performance, have them check for which performance has the best seats. They will work with you on this. The website will not. I gave up actually booking the tickets on the website, because I learned I nearly always could get better seats by calling them direct (Telecharge, that is, not the theatre).

Patrick has given good advice. I would add thatif these are the best orchestra seats available, I doubt whether decent front mezzanine seats would be available.

As it turns out, I was able to secure front row mezz seats - first two seats on the inside aisle of side section (the best one can do without paying "Premium" prices). In fact, I think I sat in this same seat for Boy from Oz. Seemed like a safer bet than Row A -- wherever that might be.

I meant to repost to this yesterday. I did a little playing to see if I could find tickets for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels on the website for a row AA or BB, and try as I might I could never get them, but lots in Row A. So I'd be willing to bet that there is no AA or BB. But I also found seats in front row mezzanine, which I meant to come back and tell you about. I'm glad you found them on your own!

Many thanks, Patrick for your care. Now....what else? Thinking about tix for Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang, Pillowman (a friend is in the cast), Julius Caesar...???? So far have Spamalot and Dirty RS for a mid May trip. Seeing Fiddler and Dame Edna next week. Saw Wicked, Wonderful Town, etc etc, on the last trip.

If you have time next week, definitely get tickets for Twelve Angry Men. Compelling theater, with an outstanding ensemble performance.

Chitty really is fun. We didn't think it was all that good in London (also disappointed because the wonderful Michael Ball was sick our night and we saw a very weak understudy), but we also heard they've revamped it a bit for New York.
How could you NOT want to see that production of Julius Caesar with Denzel Washington?

This Twelve Angry Men thing is amazing. I always cringe when I hear that title thinking of all the horrible high school, university, and community theatre productions of it and how dull I always thought it was. But I DO defer to Howard and all the other critics who are doing nothing but raving about it. It shows what a great production can be. Not unlike the production of Our Town a few years ago, usually regarded as stale, but that production wowing the audiences.

Patrick, as a lover of good theater, it's too bad that Twelve Angry Men will not probably not be playing when you next come to New York. Like you, I had no great desire to see the show until friends told us we must. And, they were so right. It is indeed compelling theater with a wonderful ensemble cast.
(PS: And, we had your favorite seats--first row, center mezzanine--which were perfect for this show.)
