Need places to stay one night each; San Luis Obispo, Cambria and Carmel.

Two couples doing the trip up the PCH in October. Looking for a lovely inn or bed and breakfast in each locale. Will spend up to low $200's if necessary. Would like nice views or charming accommodations. Please help!

I don't think you really need a different place for San Luis O and Cambria - as they are only about 30? minutes away from each other.

And there are many threads in here, under California, on where to stay - but check out Moonstone Beach in Cambria http://www.central-coast-travel.com/...one-beach.html and also for Carmel - if you can't find what you want - check Monterrey and just a bit north of there at Seaside is it, or Marina? Good deals by the beach.

Here are some hotels for Marina - and we stayed at one - and it was not right on the beach but you could easily drive to the beach in a couple minutes. Marina is about 10 to 15 minutes north of Cannery Row in Monterrey, and a great value deal. http://hotelguides.com/california/marina-ca-hotels.html

Our absolute favorite is in Pacific Grove - The Seven Gables Inn. It is right on the water with beautiful rooms with great views and wonderful breakfast, along with evening wine and hors d'oeuvres. And then cookies and milk, cocoa, tea, etc each night.

We were just there last month and look forward to our next visit.

I have stayed many times at the Best Western Cavalier Inn in San Simeon. It has been a few years, but I checked Trip Advisor and the reviews are still great. You can't get more ocean front than this place. If you ask for a second story ocean front room, you are right on the edge of the bluff over the waves. Each room has a wood burning fireplace and they light firepits on the beach at night. Cambria is just down hwy 1 and has great restaurants. I have also stayed at a few B&Bs on Moonstone Beach, which is a really beautiful stretch of beach and tidepools, but all the accomodations are across a road from the beach. They were lovely though. Just depends on if you like to have the sounds of the ocean right outside your room, or if you prefer the more intimate B&B "experience".

San Luis Obispo: For a one-of-a-kind place, try the Madonna Inn.

The Apple Inn is very popular and highly rated.

For a basic, no-nonsense (but quite good hotel) try the La Cuesta Inn.

Even if you don't stay at Madonna Inn, you must go check it out. So unusual and it has an interesting back story.

I'd stay in Santa Barbara instead of San Luis Obispo, as stated SLO is very close to Cambria. I have also stayed at the Best Western in San Simeon, and it was very nice, had a fireplace in our room.

We stayed at the San Simeon Best Western, too, and loved it.

It is officially called the Best Western Cavalier Oceanfront Resort

If you are a guy - there is a special treat for ye at the Madonna Inn.

And there are motels/accommodations right on/adjacent to the beach at Moonstone - by Cambria - as well as across the road.

For a little more history on the Madonna Inn. http://www.madonnainn.com/history.php

And even if we were driving/hauling straight through from SF to LA or vice versa - back in your "younger" days - we would always make a stop at the Madonna Inn.
