Need place in San Luis Obispo

We will be spending one night in San Luis Obispo on our way from LA to San Jose.

Can anyone recommend a nice motel or hotel? A B&B would be okay if it is fairly modern - good shower, mattress, etc.
My husband definitely doesn't like "cutesy" or antiques.

We would like to spend around $100 or less, if possible. Continental breakfast would be another plus.

Thanks in advance.

There is a nice Embassy Suites here that we used as a stopover.Free cocktails in the afternoon, and a full breakfast buffet in the morning. It is also attached to an indoor mall.

There is a Holiday Inn Express on Monterey Street. We used it as an overnight on our coast drive, basic accomodations with continental breakfast, no complaints. Up on Monterey Street is the Apple Farm Restaurant, "cutsey" decor but the food is pretty decent.

If you just want something basic but clean and convenient I suggest the Best Western Somerset Inn on Monterey St. If you want a more European style inn then the Petit Soleil (also on Monterey St.) is a pleasant place. It's an old motel that has been converted to a rather charming place. The Garden Street Inn is more a traditional B&B. It does have antiques but it's not what I'd consider "cutesy" and it has a great downtown location.

Another name: La Cuesta Inn, right across from the Apple Farm and just off the freeway. I'd hazard a guess that this is the best value for your money. Good clean rooms under $100 with a continental breakfast.

Depending on the season, they have local apples set out as well. Tasty, original, old fashioned apples!

Also afternoon goodies.

Very friendly.

Thanks so much for all the good suggestions.

Now I will get to work on finding out prices and making a reservation.

I really appreciate the help.
