need oahu hotel

I know I'm being foolish but am looking for a reasonably priced hotel near Waikiki Beach. Great if it was on the water but know that might be an impossibility.
My son and his family will be moving there in April and am sure we'll be visiting occasionally. I've been spoiled and stayed on the beach previously on vacations but we'll be there to visit him so guess that doesn't make much difference.

Thanks for any suggestions!!!!

Are you looking for a hotel for after your son moves? If so, there's this wonderful thing called the kamaaina discount. Hawaiian residents get good discounts on hotels, luaus and some other touristy things, so have your son book you a room in his name for the discount, and then just make sure he's there with his Hawaii driver's license when you check in. Not only do you get a discount, but it was my experience that we were usually upgraded, too. Be sure to check a few different hotels, because some give a bigger discount than others.

The Hawaiiana Hotel and The Breakers on Beach Walk are small hotels a couple blocks from the beach with reasonable rates by Waikiki standards.

You might try the New Otani hotel. It is on the very far end of Waikiki Beach near Diamond Head. It sits right on the beach and the view from the rooms is looking back at the main action on Waikiki Beach. We stayed there 1-1/2 years ago and loved being so close to the action without being hampered by the crowds. I found the hotel on this website so you might do a search of it to get other posters' reviews. Good luck!

Hi, we just got back from Hawaii and stayed at the Ohana East which was reasonably priced and about 2 blocks from the beach right downtown. The people were wonderful especially Nathan the coffee guy at the Daily Buzz in the hotel and Jacob the bellman.Everything is near hotel and the rooms were super nice and clean.Have fun!

Any place in Waikiki is fairly close to the beach.

Waikiki is a strip about 1 1/2 miles long and 4 blocks wide.

Ohana hotels are good for their price.

Outrigger Reef on the Beach isn't inexpensive, but they give about $200 in "Bonus Bucks" that can be spent like cash in selected stores.

There is a fairly inexpensive condo right next to the Outrigger Reef on the Beach called Waikiki Shore. It is co-managed by Outrigger and Castle. So it is also called Castle Waikiki Shore.

Both Outrigger and Oahan offer 5th night free in many of their hotels as do some others.

Waikiki Sunset and Waikiki Banyon are fairly inexpesive condos.

You can compare a lot of Waikiki hotels on these sites:

www.bookit.com

www.hawaii-hotels.com Scroll to the bottom and where it says VISIT, click on Oahu hotels or Oahu condos.

www.expedia.com

But yourself a copy of 'Oahu Revealed'. It has a great dining section and a great hotel review list.

Lots to do on Oahu:

Agree with Hawaiiana...not plush in the least, but clean, basic and nice folks who run it...under $100.

Last year I stayed at Queens Surf next to Kapiolani Park. Awesome view of the park and Diamondhead, beautifully decorated room, comfy bed, kitchenette, short walk to the beach. about $125 I think.

aloha!
