Need NYC hotel rec for family of 3

Hi all -
I'm looking for hotel recommendations for our family trip to NYC in early December. It will be me, DH and DD5. Right now we have reservations at Hotel Beacon which looks like a great location and nice rooms/atmosphere but I'm hoping to find something equally well located and equally nice for less than $250/nt.

While in NYC we plan to do Xmas things (5th Ave/Macys, Rockefeller Ctr, Rockettes, Nutcracker) . Other things we plan to do = Intrepid, Chinatown, Nat'l History Museum and Met, Staten Island Ferry and maybe Brooklyn.

If anyone has any good recommendations I would love to hear them.
Thanks.

Hotels are negotiating like crazy - we just booked **** rooms in Newport Beach California for $75 on priceline, and on Coronado Island in San Diego **** for $94, just by asking. This was for April, so if you need a secure reservation for the holiday season, this is not for you. My guess is that this recession will last long enough for cheaper prices later in the year. We have also used priceline for Manhattan, DC, Albuquerque, and several other cities. If you know the ropes, you can usually be well satisfied. Go to biddingfortravel.com and good luck.

Early December is a very high priced time for hotels in NYC.
$250 is actually pretty good.
Although there are very good hotel deals in NYC now, March is always a less busy and less expensive time. And any "recession deals" are not going to be offered now for Deecember. Certainly keep checking every month or so on sites like Travelzoo that lists deals that usually come directly from the hotels.
Priceline will not work for you, in case you were considering that, because it only guarantees a room for 2 people. Many NYC hotel rooms are very small and a room for 2 could have just one double bed and not allow (for fire code reasons) a third person, even a child

I was thinking the same as nyer . . . $250 for early December sounds great. I can't imagine the price getting much lower than that for the most popular weeks of the year.

I too wanted to say you got a deal. I want to try the Hotel Beacon. I may try it my next trip to NYC. $250 is good any time in nyc but especiallly for December. I think you should feel good about that!

That's an excellent price for December - in a great neighborhood, especially with a child. I would grab it - then about 2/3 months out check to see if there are any incredible deals (the result of wherever the economy is then).
