Need KAUAI and MAUI recommendations
 

We are plannning a trip to Kauai and Maui and would appreciate your recommendations on Lodging, airfare, discouts, best sites to see.

We prefer a resort type hotel, ocean front, less
than $150 per night.

Any recommendations for travel agents who specialize in Hawaiian vacations, or package deals, or other discounts.

We just got back from Maui yeasterday. We booked through Hawaii World. (actually our travel agent did). Not sure of the actual breakdown for the room cost but we stayed at the Westin Maui which is right on the beach and would highly recommend it. the hotel is fantastic but the rooms are a little small and sparce but you're never in the room anyway

I have been researching Kauai for the past month. What I found is that for the money, condos are a better value. Of course, it depends on what you're looking for. If you want valet and maid service a condo is not for you. I have also noted that the views and lanais are far superior at condos. Resorts tend to pack as many rooms as possible into the building and the view and lanai (if there is one) tend to suffer. You can check out some actual views at www.pleasantholidays.com. In addition to finding tons of information on the internet, (almost too overwhelming) I found a book called the "Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" extremely helpful. It covers beaches, activities, accomodations etc. and was written by people who began as Kauai tourists and are now residents.
I will be very surprised if you can find an Ocean FRONT room at a resort for $150/night especially if you plan on staying in the Poipu area. If you do I'd be interested in knowing where at, as I am still in search of the perfect place. Good Luck.

Went to Hawaii back in September. Found a travel center geared towards Hawaii on the internet: The Visitor Center Hawaii. Found they had really good prices, but would stay away from them. Mistakes were made, and even though some of the booking mistakes were their fault, they refused to admit to anything and would not swallow the charges. Found them to be very poor with customer relations and would never book with them again.

We stayed at the Kihei Beach Resort on Maui last March. (808) 879-2744 We paid $160 for a 2 bedroom condo. It's right on the beach and the beach is Sugar Beach, north part of Kihei. We found it very convenient although the back part of the condo faces the road and it's noisy during the morning rush. Our bedroom faced the beach so we didn't find it too noisy. The children's bedroom faced the back but they're up early anyway! Only about 15 minutes from the airport and very central on the island. There are a few others on that strip of beach but we noticed some of the other buildings were perpendicular to the beach as opposed to being parallel which means this building had ALL units beachfront.
Check out this condo for Kauai - also 2 bedrooms. We rented from the owner $950 per week. http.//www.ivacation.com/p5427.htm. The condo has its own pool but can also use the pools and facilities of the resort Outrigger Kauai Beach next door. A path leads right to the resort (2 min. walk) The ocean in front is a bit rough during March. Again, very central and about 1/2 hr. drive to Poipu and the North Shore. 5 minutes from the airport. Have a good trip.

I'm am planning a trip to Hawaii in October for our anniverary and would like as much info as possible. Price, hotels on the beach low rates, airfare etc. Please give me a good travel agent or someone would could help me out as much as possible.

Avoid the Four Seasons in Wailea Maui. Just stayed there and the place is over priced and a poor hotel. Overall we found the service to be sporadic most of the times rude. The place is overcrowded and you will find that unless you like vacationing in times square that overall the hotel tries to stuff as many people into the property as possible. It is not uncommon to be told you'll have to wait until 2:30-3:00 before your room in ready. The health spa is poor with old equipment and a lack of space. The decor in the rooms is early 70's in look. Suggest that other hotels in Maui are a much better value...this one a loser. <BR> <BR>Alan

Try the Maui Marriot in Kaanapali. It's oceanfront, right next to the Hyatt, & excellent service. I'm planning a trip there in August. And, the best part, if you goto www.marriot.com you can find their special room rate of $135 per room, per night!!!! <BR>I highly recommend it & they also have special deals on Kauai as well. However, the Hyatt Kauai is incredible. Good luck!!! <BR> <BR>

<BR>We stayed in a condo in Poipu that we found thru a company called Suite paradise. You can pretty well specify what you need. Their number is 1-800-241 5429. We have a lovely condo near the Hyatt Regency.
