Need itinerary help 6 days in Mainen

I have never been to Maine before and I'm not sure where to start.
I will have 6days/7nts in October (7-13).
Would like to vist Acadia NP as well as mountains. Seeing leaves change would also be great. Anyone have suggestions for a driving tour? I would also need help with deciding which airports to fly into and depart from.
Any Help would be appreciated.

I'll be up there the same time! It's a GREAT time to visit - the leaves are beautiful. I would definitely recommend Acadia National Park - but give yourself more than a day there. I've been going there for ten years and still haven't seen or done everything! But you should get busy with reservations - quite a few of the places I checked were already booked.

If you're into hiking / nature you shouls also check out Baxter State Park. If you go to Sandy Stream Pond once in the park you'll almost definitely see some moose. I've never NOT seen one there. It's a three hour (each way) day trip from Acadia but COMPLETELY worth it.

I also like Portland and Freeport (you can't miss LL Bean).

One more thing - Baxter State Park is home to the tallest mountain in Maine and it's BEAUTIFUL!

Hello ltillm, where are you flying in from??? You can fly into Portland Jetport (PWM), rent a car and take Route 1 North. Maybe stay in Freeport (home of LL Bean) your first night. There are lot's of hotels and B&B's in that area. Then just take Route 1 north through all the little sea coast towns in mid-Maine, on your way up to Bar Harbor. This can definately be done in a day, but if you want a medium point, maybe stay over a night in Rockland or Camden, the Samoset is always a nice place to stay. Finally, when you get up to Bar Harbor, make sure to stay a few days. This will be the end of their season, so things will be a lot quieter this time of year. Lot's of "leaf-peepers", but fortunately for you, the roads will be less crowded. Make sure to go into the park and drive the Loop Road. Also either hike or drive to the top of Cadillac Mtn. Beautiful 360 view of the area. Make sure to make reservations. If you need anymore info, or specific reservations, just let me know your price range and I'll let you know. Baxter is a few more hours north, so if you are into hiking and great scenary, that's another nice spot.

Oh yeah, on your way back, you can either take Route 1, or to make faster time, just take 95 South from either Bangor or Augusta, whichever is easier. Then you can stay overnight in the Old Port or one of the coastal town around Portland, before flying out, either the next day or day after. Lot's of shopping and city sites in the Old Port of Portland. Great new hotels too, the new Hilton and the Portland Harbor Hotel to name a few.
