Need info on tours in New Orleans
Im going to be in New Orleans soon and I would love to take a few tours. I would love some info on everyones favorite tours with a little detail about what you liked about them. I am completely open to all suggestions so dont be shy.
I am interested in the Katrina tour so if theres anyone who has been on one of these let me know your impressions. Also, which one of the haunted tours or voodoo tours has anyone been on and really enjoyed? Thanks, you guys are great, mscmkr |
It's been several years ago, but I took a walking tour sponsored by the Friends of the Cabildo and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We did a bus tour that stopped at the cemeteries. Also, one on a river boat that you could go to plantations on, but you did have to pay for each plantation.

If you decide to go on a swamp tour, you might want to limit it to a half day trip. After you've seen one nutria, gator and/or heron, you've seen them all. Most tours will pick you up and deliver you back to your hotel.
Grey Line Tours has an informative city tour that stops to allow you to see a cemetery. They also have a Katrina Tour, but I've heard in the past there are individuals who are better - sorry, I don't remember their names but hopefully somebody else can give you that information. |
We took the cemetery/voodoo tour and the french quarter tour with the Historic New Orleans Walking Tour Co - both were great. The guides were very informative and entertaining.
Several years ago we did a plantation tour with Spinato Tours - I don't know if they are still around post-Katrina, but the tour was great. We had a small group of about 12 people, visited Laura and Oak Alley plantations, plus a couple stops enroute. Regarding the swamp tours - we took a private tour on a small boat with Capt Nick and although it was only a half day tour, I could have actually spent all day cruising through the swamps. We also got out and walked a little bit, which was neat. |
