Need info on Kauai Marriott
I was wanting to get feed back on the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club. I have never been to Kauai and am a little nervouse since I have recently seen a rating for this hotel that was not very good. Has any one been there recently. It is clean, quiet, ect. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am also wondering if the end of September/beginning of October is a good time to visit that location.
Thank you in advance! |
I have friends who own time shares at both Marriotts in Kauai. They like them very much. Are you thinking of staying at the one at Poipu Beach or the one on Kalapaki Beach near Lihue?

We stayed there a couple of years ago. The pool is wonderful. The rooms were fine. We enjoyed our stay. It's on the east side of the island, so the drive to the north side isn't bad, and the drive to the south side isn't bad. Have fun!
I haven't been to that island in Sept/Oct, so can't help you there. |
Thanks for the input we will be staying on the Kalapaki Beach. I am not too sure about the weather. We love the outdoors and plan to be busy exploring... any thoughts or suggestions on the time frame of late september/early October or activites we should not miss?

That time of year is very good weather in Kauai.
I highly recommend the helicopter tour, Waimea Canyon, eating at the Beach House at sunset. |
One more thing. You will greatly enhance your visit to Kauai by getting the book "The Ultimate Guide to Kauai" by Doughty. It will give you objective detailed reviews and descriptions on all the activities, adventures, restaurants, and sights to see and how to avoid the tourist rip-offs.

While you are book shopping, pick up a copy of Lenore Horowitz's Kauai Underground Guide now in its n-th edition.
Lihue Marriott on Kalapaki Beach is a very nice property. Anna |
Have a timeshare at Kauai Marriott on Kalapaki Beach and it is a really nice resort, centrally located with beautiful pool and five jacuzzis. They are in the process of remodeling the rooms. We normally go in the fall, and I will be there starting September 19 for a week.
There are several nice restaurants on the property, we love Duke's, both the main upstairs restaurant and the Barefoot Bar for lunch and drinks. The Portofino is nice also. Don't care for the main restaurant, Kukui's. You are walking distance to a small strip mall with ABC Store and several restaurants. The Harbor Mall across the street also has nice restaurants, we liked the new Mexican place, Mariachis, our last trip. My favorite activity is boat tour of Na Pali coast (we like HoloHolo or Liko), drive up to Waimea Canyon, and drive up to North Shore. Plenty to keep you busy during your stay. |
I stayed there a few years ago - so not that recent. It was a trip through my dh's work. The room we had was very nice - the beach there stinks. Nothing to it really.
It is very close to the airport. I would definately rent a car. The pools are very nice. I went horseback riding and hiking on the north shore and loved it. We also drove all the way to the end...on the North shore and snorkled with the sea turtles. That was awesome. I loved the beach there. Took a "sunset" dinner cruise which was a bit of a stretch - it was not a "dinner cruise" it was on a cat and very rough - if you do not have a strong stomach do not do it. I was ill the entire time. It was rather funny NOW but then not so much. The kanapali <sp> coast is rough but amazing. I also recommend dinner at Beachhouse at sunset. I would get reservations. It was crowded. I have not been to Kaui in Oct but spent my honeymoon in Maui in early Oct and it was the nicest weather I have had at anytime - I have been to the Islands in Feb, March and Oct and Oct was the least rainy and most lovely. Have a fabulous time! |
Not to be missed are the following places to eat:
- Hamura Saimin in Lihue, about a five-minute drive, 15 minute walk from the Marriott. - Kalapaki Beach Hut, right on the main drag in front of the Marriott. - My favorite Kauai restaurant remains Plantation Gardens within Kiahuna Plantation resort on the South Shore. Our favorite activity on Kauai is to sit on the beach and enjoy the view. BTW, there is a wonderful beachfront grassy area at the Marriott, where one can pull up a lounge chair and zen. Anna |
We stayed there a few years ago and liked it. I really picked it only because we had Marriott points and could stay for free. The room was nice enough. The pool was huge and gorgeous. We didn't spend much time on the beach - big cruise ships were out there, it's not really your traditional kind of beach. The pool more than made up for it for us. One thing they had that was neat was that every morning they gave out food so you could feed the koi. It's very close to the airport, but the noise didn't bother us.
