Need info on JFK airport

I need to get myself to JFK airport where we begin a tour. I live in Maryland and it IS possible to drive up, but it's not my first choice. In checking flight times/prices, I'm often finding better prices/times to another NYC area airport - both LaGuardia and Newark. Is there a shuttle? (Reasonably priced?) Is there an option I haven't thought of? Bus? Train? If we DO decide to drive, is it a real hassle via I-95? Any ideas of parking prices for long-term parking? I do appreciate any help!

Redcurls:

As for long term parking at JFK, we find that it is almost always better to rent a car one-way. If you calculate the costs of both you'll see what I mean. Also, depending on the time of year this is a better choice due to the location of the lots (cold or rainy weather). We arrived at this conclusion after several "bad" experiences...not just weather, our windshield had actually been smashed one time!! We were away for 3 weeks and were not very happy to return to that!!!

JFK is actually fairly easy to get to from the city, and you have lots of options of how to get there.

1. Take a cab it's about $35.00
2. Take a service car about $35.00
3. Airport bus from the city $12 (I think) or from LaGuardia.
4. Bus from Newark (and don't know the price, but probably not more than $20
5. and my personal favorite take the A train for $1.50.

I don't think I would drive it, parking even reduced rate is expensive and depending on how long you are gone, it could be pretty costly.

The one way rental idea is good, but then you have to make sure that there is a car available to go back.

Good luck with your trip.

gail
