Need info on car rental locations for Hawaii

Hi,
I would really appreciate help from some of you who know Hawaii as to rental cars. We wil be staying at Hawaii Prince in Oahu, Sheraton Maui, Maui Prince, and Hilton Waikaloa Village on the big island.
We know we won't want a car the entire time we are there, but maybe for a few days on each island. Should we get one at the airport, or are there locations near our hotels (if so could you be specific)? Thanks Kai

I've been to the Big Island many times. I'm sorry that I can't help with any others but I'm sure you'll get help from someone. Anyway the easiest place on the Big Island to rent cars is at the airport. All the major car rentals have counters there and shuttle you a very short distance to the cars. Believe me, you'll need a car for this island it truly lives up to it's name. The hotel you're staying at is about 30-45 min north of the airport. It's very large and spread out. You have to visit the town of Kona while you're there

Kai....Oahu/Waikiki
Just a few notes:
You can catch a shuttle or hotel shuttle to Waikiki from the airport.

Along Kalakaua Ave. in Waikiki, and several other hotel locations there are rental car offices.

Alot of the shuttles are free (i.e. to go to Hilo Hatties in Honolulu- downtown)

There is also a local trolley that you can buy daily ride tickets to get around the Waikiki area (i.e. up to Diamondhead)

The local bus system is very good.

Concur with car on the Big Island...just a necessity!

Not familiar enough with Maui.

enjoy
rus

Thanks for the help. It seems like even though I have researched quite a bit, help from those who have been to Hawaii is priceless.

I think you will want a car the whole time you are on the BI, and most of the time on Maui. When checking prices, look for companies that let you "share" a weekly rate split bewtween two islands.
