Need IDEAS!

Hi All...
My husband,13 yo son and me have 5-6 days off in August..I know its last minute but are there any Good Ideas Out There as to places to stay..things to do and see..either in Va,N Carolina,?We are from NH and would like to drive South.. Since we don't have a full week, renting a house on the Outer Banks is out of the question,,Any Good Hotels in that area? Or cabins etc in Va? We love the outdoors, hiking etc ,beaches too..Thanks for ANY info!

Take a look at some of the other NC beaches - Surf City, Wrightsville Beach, Topsail - there's a bunch of them. Virginia Beach (near Norfolk, VA) is also fun.. As for hotels and cabins - there are THOUSANDs, so take a look at some of the other beaches, then look for the specifics to that area...

In August I'd say stick by the coast or go REALLY high up into the mountains to avoid the summer heat

Just came back from Topsail Beach Saturday. Had a great week- sun every day except Wednesday. Ate at two wonderful restaurants- Latitude 34 and II Beauchaine's. For house rentals, you cna find Ward's and Century 21 on the net. They usually have the best cottages.

Fast trip to south part of NC to enjoy a beach, then south via Myrtle beach, SC to see Chaleston, then Savannah. Then home

Vette4Paris...all in 5-6 days driving from New Hampshire and back? Yikes! "Fast trip" indeed. LOL

OO, lol, but no one said anything about sleep. I foresee high speeds and overnights on the interstates, then play all day. They can rest once they get back to NH.

It's been a long time since we stayed at Virginia Beach, but we always enjoyed it. I know you said South, and probably for a very good reason, so forgive me, but have you been to Quebec? We enjoyed staying inside the old city walls.

I'm sorry, babe, I'm all out of jam. You'll have to figure this one out by yourself.

If you like Andy Griffith, make a trip to Mt. Airy, North Carolina. It is Mayberry.

There is a state park in Va. called Douthat State Park. It's in the mountains and there are cabins you can rent and great trails to hike. Check it out on the web. My family stayed there 2 summers ago and had a blast. There's a lake to swim in, canoes and bikes to rent. Enjoy.

Take a look at Coolfont in Berkeley Springs WVA. www.coolfont.com You can rent a cabin in the woods; there is great hiking, indoor pool, a large lake with paddle boats and fishing, horseback riding and a nice spa for massages, facials, etc. for you. Berkeley Springs has some great little art galleries and holistic shopping and other spas. There's nice bike riding (rentals available) along the river at the C&O Canal towpath (very level and paved so you can go a long way through the shade) right outside town and Cacapon State park is nearby. And, the price is great.
