NEED HELP WITH HOTELS IN SAN DIEGO!!

We are a young couple planning a trip to San Diego. Would appreciate any advice on where to stay and what to do. We are looking for a clean, fairly inexpensive(doesn't have to be dirt cheap!)hotel in a good location (possibly beachfront). Also, we really want to spend most of the time relaxing on the beach-are we going to the right place?? Any advice on activities two 23-year old woulds enjoy in the area would be appreciated as well! Thank you for your help in advance! Have a great day!

The Del Mar Motel(858-755-1534) is right on the beach in Del Mar. It is older style, but quaint. You can walk into Del Mar where there are resturants and shops. I live in Del Mar and reccomend it often. If you are coming this summer, I would reccommend after racing season which closes the end of August. Actually September and October are the best months here. You will pay double for any hotel during the season.
There is also the Cardiff By the Sea Bed and Breakfast that I have heard good things about(760-944-657).
Though Del Mar would be more fun because you can easily walk everywhere and the beach is nicer.
Feel free to email me if you have any more questions.
Have fun!

Embassey Suites or the Marriott near the SD Marina are good choices. Stroll the Marina or through Seaport Village, etc. Lots of room to jog & stroll and later walk into the gaslight district nearby or Horton Plaza for dining.

I live in San Diego. The Embassy Suites and the Mariott are very nice and the downtown area would definitely be my choice of where to stay. However neither of the above hotels falls in the category of inexpensive. Del Mar is a great little town. I am not familiar with the Del Mar Hotel but it is a great location. You may want to check on the La Jolla Shores. It is right on the Beach and is a good area. Fairly reasonable. There are many choices and you can often get some very good deals if you visit in off season ( i.e. NOT summer ). Check out one of the web sites for hotels in the San Diego area. Stay in the area from downtown San Diego to the north county ( i.e. Del Mar, Carlsbad, etc. ). Coronado is great but it will be difficult to find anything reasonable. Do NOT go south nor east of downtown San Diego.

There are many very reasonable places in the Mission/Pacific Beach area. Not a bad area though not as nice as La Jolla nor Del Mar.

Stacey, I totally agree with the previously poster. You're not going to find anything that meets your price criterion that would please you in San Diego itself.

Try the hotel at the Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach. It isn't just on the beach, it's over the ocean on the pier itself. Modest, cabin type rooms. I don't know exact prices, but this is definitely better than luxury hotel prices.
