Need help with Hotel in NYC

Does anyone know of any good hotel discounters? I want to stay in the Times Square or Central Park area. I've already tried quikbook.com and hotels.com.
Many are coming up in the 300 and 400 dollar range. I am trying to stay below $300.
Thanks!

What are your dates?

That will have a lot to do with the price.

Also, hotel rooms for more than two people are usually more expensive because hotel rooms are generally small in Manhattan.

As GoTravel said, rates will vary by time of year and can even vary by day of the week.

If you do a little research on a site like www.betterbidding.com you could bid for a hotel on Priceline. Personally I don't think the NYC deals on PL are all that wonderful anymore - a good sign for the travel industry, not so good for us bargain hunters! Anyway, you can also try:

http://www.mobissimo.com/search_hotels.php
http://www.lodging.com
http://www.onetravel.com
http://www.travelworm.com

Give us a little more info and maybe we can offer some specific hotel recommendations. Good luck!

If there are two of you, you might consider using Priceline - just be sure you understand bidding fully before beginning.

Separately, have you gone to the hotel web sites - frequently they have the best prices.

Are you by any chance looking for the holiday season? If so - you may have trouble finding anything less than that unless you go to a modest hotel in a different part of the city.

For the TS/CP areas, that $300 price point is going to be a problem. If you can go a bit outside that rigid location requirement (or a bit downmarket), you can find good rates at more modest properties such as those run by Apple Core Hotels (www.applecorehotels.com). My feeling is this: It's a relatively small town, cabs are cheap-- if the room is comfy and clean, do you really HAVE to be in Times Square or Central Park?!

We spent 11 days recently in The Blakely Hotel. It was great. Good location not too far from Times Square and only three blocks from Central Park.

It used to be the Hotel Gorham, but has been completely revamped. Excellent staff, nice, big rooms. Booked it for $219 on Quickbook. I think they are still going for that price range.
