need help with hotel in Colorado Springs

Hi,
I am attending a figure skating competition in Colorado Springs at the end of the year. The competition takes place at the World Arena. Looking for a nice, conveniently located hotel. Broadmoor is a bit too expensive. Any advice? Thanks.

Some years ago I stayed at the Red Lion, it was "down the road" from Broadmoor, maybe a mile or so, & still connected to the trade show there. Not sure of its current status/standard but then it was just fine.

These are nearby to the Broadmoor:
- Sheraton 719-576-5900
- Red Lion 719-471-8680
- Marriot Courtyard 719-226-5006 (newest of the three)

I got rooms with 2 queens and indoor pool at the Ramada inn limited for $39.99 through orbitz in June. Address is 520 N.murray blvd.I think that its by the airport. It has a website

The Ramada on Murray is a busy not-so-nice location.
Another idea for a nice place, and not as expensive as the Broadmoor would be the Cliff House - see their URL: http://www.thecliffhouse.com/contact.html

I am not real sure where the World Arena is, but there are a ton of really good hotel deals on orbitz for that time of year - I did a quick search and they have at least 40 hotels for under 75 bucks, you should at least check it out

Is the World Arena situated at the Olympic Complex?

Kappy9857 Jun 5th, 2003 04:42 PM

Sheraton Colorado Springs was real nice with a few restaurants and an indoor pool.

We spent three days at the Red Lion last year. We were treated very well, the staff was great and I would recommend it.

Waldo, the World Arena is in the south part of Colorado Springs, just off Circle Drive and I-25. Olympic Training Center is just northeast of downtown, near Union and Platte. About a 15 minute drive. Several great hotels near the World Arena including the Doubletree(Chocolate cookies), La Quinta, a Residence Inn and another I can't think of. A Sheraton is about a 1/4 mile to the east on the other side of I-25. Red Lion is not there anymore. Also a number of good restaurants including Carrabas, Outback, Chiles, etc. A very nice 24 screen muliplex movie theater right next door to the World Arena.

To jimcolorado-
Now I know where the World Arena is, thanks to you. I worked in Colorado Springs, in 1986 and 1987, and I really loved the town. It was a clean, orderly place. I recently went to visit my grandson at the Air Force Academy, and I was apalled at what happened to that lovely town. I never saw a place go downhill so badly! I stayed at the Sheraton on Circle Drive, and it was one of the nicest hotels in which I have stayed. This was in '87. How is it today? During my recent visits I stayed at the Wyndham on Rockribbon Drive. For $40.00 nightly through Priceline, it's a steal. It's a nice place. One of my great sorrows was my trip to Royal Gorge in Canon City. In '87, I believe the admission was fifty cents or something like that. It was a very beautiful and interesting place. Now it cost $16.00. I wouldn't think of going there. I've been told that it is now a honky tonk dump.

Hey Waldo. Actually I think Colorado Springs is a great city all things considered. I have been around a few "military cities" in my life and I think that the Springs has managed to stay quite nice, despite the transient attitude of many of it's inhabitants. Lots of things to do and see, traffic is a little bad because of all the improvements, but...

The Sheraton on Circle Drive is still prety nice, older but well-maintained last time I was there.

Sorry you had a bad experience at the Royal Gorge. I would hardly call it a honky tonk dump, but I know that many people think it is a tourist trap. I just got back from the Blakhill, and if you want to talk about tourist traps, I can go on for hours. There are many things to do at the Gorge, the Bridge itself is a wonder, the incline railway to the river bottom, the cable car is too scary for me. They are building a new ride there this summer, kind of a slingshot ride that will catapult riders out and over the river gorge, some 1000 feet to the bottom. Needles to say I won't be riding it.

To jimcolorado-
I'm sorry, I misstated it. My experience(s) at Royal Gorge were some of the best I've ever had. When I was there in '86 and '87, I thoroughly enjoyed all the trips I made there. I was referring to the present day Royal Gorge that makes me unhappy. They took a gorgeous place and they commercialized it to the hilt. That makes me unhappy. The simple act of walking across the wooden planked bridge and looking way down at the Arkansas River and the tiny ribbon like railroad tracks is a truly wonderful experience. Taking the tram down to the river was a treat. Just swallowing all that scenery, the snow capped mountains and just being there is something I'll never forget. At today's prices, it's unlikely that I'll ever go back.

Another thing-
The Texas Roadhouse down on Powell is a fantastic place to eat. I would recommend it to anyone.

Greetings!! You will love Colorado Springs - coming from someone who has lived there for 11 years. Where you stay is really up to the experience you want.... Garden for the Gods is quite lovely - good for taking a hike through Garden of the Gods... what time of year? They have a small spa too if you'd like to have a massage - very nice! I agree -the Cliff House is unique and about twenty minutes from the World Arena. The area around the World Arena will be packed! Restaurants are good as mentioned, but do try downtown. If you like beer, Phantom Canyon has great microbrews and great food. When will you be visiting?
