need help with condo choice in lake tahoe
I am trying to find a condo for my husband and I for next July. We want something waterfront, a room with TV and sitting area (condo or suite), somewhat close to activities, but not too busy--i'm thinking North --1 BR is sufficient--I've spent hours looking on all of the real estate web sites and every condo has something missing--or too many BR--does anyone know anything about sunnyridge resort---it looks good, but is there anything closeby? We don't want to have to drive everytime we want to do something? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you mean Sunnyside Resort/Lodge?
If so, I've stayed there. It's a hotel/lodge/inn and not a condo though. It's lakeside with great dining on site. The lake area is not good for lounging though since it's pretty rocky there and the marina takes up the lake front area. You'd have to drive most places unless you bring a bike with you. |

I tried the website, and typed in my criteria. As before, no properties matched what I wanted. I am beginning to think I want the impossible. --lakefront--pool--kitchen, sitting area (condo or suite)and i only need a 1 or 2 bedrooms. There are so many properties with lots of BR for families. I''ll keep searching. Squaw Valley Resort does match all of my criteria, but its not on the lake. I want to see water--which is why i want to go to lake tahoe, rather than find another beautiful resort closer to home.

I just tried your link again and typed in "any" for location and did find some---many were at Carnelian Bay? Do you know what that area is like?

It's been years, but we rented a place at Chinquapin that was one bedroom and lakefront. Very nice.

Try Chinqaupin. It's on the lake and they have 1 bedroom condos:

DH and I have had good experience with vrbo.com.
From BC, Kauai, Maui, Smokey Mountains, many places in Florida and Colorda. You do neen to know neighbourhoods, I googled the condo on Kauai and knew just what condo we considered by the photo of "aloha bushes" taken from the lanai those same bushes showed up on Google. Karin |
Thank you SO much for the advise. I checked out "Chinquapin" and they do have what we want.
Does one need a/c? We are from Chicago and we have it on from june - sept. I've noticed that most placed in LT dont have it. |
It doesn't get hot enough in Tahoe for air conditioning and certainly has low humidity. Tahoe is above 6000 ft elevation so at night you generally put on a long sleeved shirt or even a sweatshirt.

that's great---one less "requirement" i will have to look for----YOu seem to know alot about the area. I've heard not to book anywhere in Tahoe City---because of traffic--Is Chinquapin far enough away that we won't feel the congestion? Also, would you say it is a well kept resort? There were no pictures of the resort other than rooms on the website.

continuation----HOw does Chinquapin compare to condos in Carnelian Bay?
|
Chinquapin is just east Tahoe City on the lake side of the road. These are all really small mountain communities you are asking about. Mostly they just have businesses on either side of Lake Tahoe Blvd (89)Carnelian Bay has the very good Garwoods restaurant and the marina but it's not a big town or anything.
Chinquapin is private, it's in a treed yet lakeside setting with sandy beaches. Carnelian Bay can have some rocky shoreline as can lots of areas around the lake. On the west side south of Tahoe City it's rocky. Here's a pic of carnelian bay public beach: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object.../TR8ARVLNC.DTL Patton Beach in Carnelian Bay looks alot like that as well. |
If you are talking about Carnelian Wood condos, the big difference is that Chinquapin in on the lake side of the highway and I think Carnelian Wood condos are across the highway from the lake. I have not stayed there so I cannot compare. Chinquapin is a few miles out of Tahoe City and is very peaceful. When we were there it had a distinctly upscale sort of a feel. The property was very nicely maintained as was our unit.

thanks for your responses. i think Chinaquapin is what we are looking for.
