I saw "In the Heights" three weeks ago, and while I enjoyed it, I agree with mclaurie that it probably won't appeal to your husband.

I hope that the Lincoln Center production of South Pacific in NYC is a heck of a lot more fun than the Lincoln Center production of the show that played in Seattle a while back. I was bummed out by how old-fashioned and boring it was when the music stopped.

It was because you liked August: Osage County, that I suggested La Cage. The story is outrageous and the actors are great. You know Kelsey Grammer is tops, and you'll be glad you got to see Douglas Hodge in his Tony winning performance.

Next January I'm traveling with my family to the US, and we are going to spend sometime in New York, i'm looking to really experience the "new york experience", we thought about going to New York just to buy clothes and stuff, but a friend that recently came from New York told me i just has to enjoy the city more than expect to buy stuff!!! And i agree!!! I want to see art, visit iconic places, and just breath New York's Spirit, and part of that spirit is Boradway, so i have to be at a musical!!! I dont' think my family would like it, but it is okay for me to go alone, so i'm between Wicked, Chicago and RAIN A tribute to the Beatles....I'm a big Beatles fan, but i believe this one is more a concert than a broadway show, so even though i really want to be there, to experience a real broadway show is worth the sacrifice. So between Wicked and Chicago, wich one is better!!!??? wich one excites you more?.....in my country (Ecuador) we do not have a "plays culture", art is not taken as serious as it should be (that meaning if you are an actor, you won't get a big pay check even if you are famous), so i have never been in a musical show, i've seen other plays though. I want the show i pick to be amazing as a first musical experience...Chicago looks interesting because of the sensuality it appears to have, that sexual appeal it has to offer (hey i'm a 19 year old boy!!!!)while wicked seems more elaborated, better performed and like a big show.....so please tell me, wich one will thrill me!!!And if any one is going to be there at the time, could we make a group to go!!!!???? i need an expert guide!!

If I were a 19-year-old male (ah to be 19 again!), I'd pick Chicago!

Chicago has an extremely stylized form of dance by a very famous choreographer - and I certainly wouldn't consider it especially sensual. It's definitely traditional Broadway but usually for an older group. (It deals with a famous murder trial.) Wicked is generally though of as a "woman's show" although some men enjoy it as well. Also it is still selling out, so you need to get tickets far in advance and you are unlikely to get discounts - so prices are sky high.

For someone younger I would reco In the Heights - which is much more current in terms of music and dance (Chicago is set in the the 1920's). If you look at playbill.com it will list all of the shows running with reviews - as well as show those that are discounting

On our last trip to NYC we saw both Chicago and Wicked. We were with relatives who had never seen a Broadway show; all 3 were disappointed in Chicago because of its simple sets and more intimate setting. It's a great show, but they wanted the "wow" factor of a huge production with numerous costume and set changes. After seeing Wicked the next day, they said that its production was what they were expecting.

So, if it's a big production you want, try to get a ticket to Wicked. Whatever you decide, have a great time!!

I totally agree with nytraveler -- <b>In the Heights</b> is a wonderful, big, bold, musical with lots of talented performers. It really makes you want to stand up and dance. It will not only give you a taste of "Broadway", but will also give you a sense of Latin culture in America. I think you will find plenty of "sensuality". The ladies are hot! Of the two you mention, I think Wicked is the better choice, but it really helps if you've read the book beforehand. While I loved the movie of Chicago, I didn't love the play. It feels quite small in scale. A bit of a disappointment for a "big" Broadway show.

Too bad Priscilla, Queen of the Desert doesn't open until February. If it's huge production you want, that's hard to top. Just saw it for the second time in London, and the new production opening now in Toronto headed to Broadway is supposed to be even bigger and "improved", if that's possible.
