Need help with Berkshires lodging

My friend and I want to do a girlfriend getaway the last week in June to the Berkshires. The B&B's there seem to be geared towards romantic couples and they are very expensive. We are looking for a place that is average to above average in quality with some charm and not a hefty price tag. We are willing to rent a place for a week as well if it is more cost effective. Neither of us has been to the area before. Suggestions and advice are appreciated.

We stayed in small hotels in NY state sometimes and we rented a house when we went for a month or more.

Look for places in Great Barrington .. it is a large town and there are some big chain places as well as nicer hotels along the Main Street.

B&Bs are definitely expensive and you will be in the Season too so prices will be up.

Good luck, we loved it there so much we came This close to buying a home there :)

Not sure exactly where you are wanting to stay in the Berkshires .. but if you are interested in North County .. near Mass Moca and Williamstown .. The Porches Inn is pretty reasonable .. www.porches.com .. In South County there are absolutely lovely places but they are very .. very expensive .. You might also want to try Bennington VT for a B & B .. not far from Williamstown .. maybe twenty minutes and a quaint little town ..

We don't care for B&B's.

One of our favorite places to stay is

Country inn style rooms, beautiful grounds, nicely located.

A friend and I stayed here for a couple of days. We were in the region for my sister's wedding and so decided, what the heck, let's see the Berkshires while we're there.

Kinda weird, but buckets of character. Fun itsy-bitsy bar.

Avoid the theme rooms! Ours was "Swan" and had very, very strange decor. We thought it was funny--you may not.
