Need help with airfare to Vegas

Hi all. Trying to get tickets to Vegas on the cheap. Travel dates are Dec 29-Jan 12.
We actually need to be in LA- yet the prices are so expensive at the moment on airfare. My thoughts are to fly to Vegas- rent a car- drive to LA. Hoping this might be a cheaper option- anybody got any ideas? Please help. Thanks

From where? I would doubt your scenario could be cheaper. What about airports near LAX.

I doubt very much that you'll save much because there are now many fewer flights into LV, but if you are going to rent a car anyway, then you might get a cheaper rate right now in LV than in LA (because business is down so much in LV).

If you do rent, make sure there is not an additional charge for driving into California. Some LV companies do charge this rate (but not most of the majors).

JetBlue might offer better deals into the LA area (probably Long Beach) or Southwest. And price flights into San Diego as well; it's much close to LA than Las Vegas.

Thanks- please keep the thoughts coming- with any luck- we can find a cheaper flight than what I have yet to see.
We live in NC- so we can fly out of Raleigh- greensboro-charlotte-or anywhere in reason.
Two recently retired adults- who are looking for travel bargains. The better the deal- the more trips we will be able to take- hope you all are willing to help us out- thanks so much for the replies.
Our immediate need is either the Vegas or LAX as we have tickets and rooms for the Rose Parade- yet have no airfare booked as yet. Thanks again!!

Frankly, you're just never going to find a cheap airfare from NC, and you don't have that many options. JetBlue flies to both Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham, and you of course must price USAirways and Southwest. Most of the airlines are funning a holiday fare sale right now, and the rates are, frankly, as good as they are going to get.

Check flights into LAX, Long Beach, San Diego, Orange County, and Las Vegas. But with the drive, I think Las Vegas is your worst option.

You just need to sit down and spend half an hour with Expedia (but book on the airline's own web site if you can get the same fare to save the booking fee). Consider that you may have to pay to check one bag each way if you don't fly Southwest or JetBlue.

Thanks Doug, and to everyone for all the help. I flew to Seattle in Sept for 178.00 RT- so I guess I was hoping for a real deal- but not to find.

(Also responded on your other thread). That route is just over $200 for random dates mid-January. It is the holiday time that is increasing fares.

Flying into and/or out of Ontario airport would be a good idea, if your lodging is up around Pasadena.

If you are going to the Rose Bowl game and are Penn State fans, then I suggest buying your tickets asap, otherwise wait.
