A little help here for Marta?

Audrey Jan 10th, 2002 08:48 AM

Marta: I have stayed at the Inn by the Sea, and it is wonderful. Can't help you with the two places in Camden, but have driven by and heard a lot of good about the Norumbega. York: There is a place right on what I think is Ocean Avenue in York (not the Stage Neck Inn); can't think of the name of it, but someone else may know; I've seen it mentioned here.

York Harbor Inn is the other inn beside Stage Neck in York Harbor. I've stayed there twice - once in the main inn and the second time at the sister inn right next door which has a different name. I liked the sister inn better than the main inn. Both inn have benefited relatively recently by the creation of a public park on the ocean side of the street. Apparently the will of the owner of an ocean estate donated the home to the town and requested that it be torn down to create a public area. It really gives the inn nice views.

Thank you for the help... I am going to look into Norumbega and also into the
York Harbor Inn...
I would also wanted to know if its
better to stay at Camden or Kennebunkport?

Just my opinion, but I thought Camden was MUCH more appealing than Kennebunkport. I don't know the inns you are considering, although they look great, but I just thought the town was lovely. Somewhere I saw it named as one of the prettiest harbors in the world (or the country-- bit of a difference there!)

Sorry if this is triple posted eventually, I don't see my previous messages. Audrey, we had looked into the Inn by the Sea for last year, but thought the inn looked very far from the water in pictures on their site. Is it as far as it looks? Also, what about accomodations? The pictures look great--did you have a view of the water?
Thanks!

We stayed at the Whitehall Inn in Camden many years ago. Quite charming, but it was right on the highway that goes through town and the trucks roared all night. I would go back to Cambden, but would probably stay at Norumbega.

Arriba: it is indeed a walk to the beach at Inn by the Sea, but it's a wooden walkway, and goes through a pretty, natural vegetation area with lots of birds, so we enjoyed it; however, if I were a mom with kids and all the beach stuff that entails, it may have been a problem. Yes, we had a view of the ocean.

A Little Dream B&B is ABSOLUTELY wonderful!! The rooms are adorable and clean. Last time we went we stayed in the room with the $7k or $8k tub. The owners don't miss a beat. The breakfasts are gourmet. We were there for 4 days and had apple cheddar omelets, cranberry poached pears, raspberry souflets (sp?), etc, etc. I would highly recommend induldging and staying there. Oh I just can't say enough!

Instead of the Inn by the Sea, consider the Black Point Inn (Prout's Neck) in Scarborough. Right on two beaches and Cliff Walk, with really lovely views, and wonderful lobby/porch/common areas.
In York, why not the Stage Neck Inn?

I first visited Camden on my honeymoon nearly five years ago. Other than my own home, it is my favorite place in the world. You must visit the state park there. Our favorite place to stay is Glenmoor By the Sea. We love the older rooms, but there are new rooms as well. They also have two small swimming pools. There is a path to the rocky shore. Cappy's Chowder House has the best meals.

Thanks to you All for the help you gave me and the suggestions....
I also liked the Yachtsman Lodge in Kennebunkport, and The Harwell House Inn, and the Cliff House.... Wow....
there are so many that you get all confused.... THANKS

I have no idea where to stay but reading about Camden brought back such wonderful memories. I loved that little town - so beautiful with such wonderful old houses. Being from the NW we don't have very many old houses like that.

Also there is a prison shop south of Camden somewhere and they have wonderful wooden models of the old ships for a steal. Of course getting it home could be a challenge if you are flying or driving.

Enjoy!
