Need help planning Asheville trip

I have had some great advise in planning vacations using suggestions from this site. For the past 16 years 4 couples go away the last week end in April. Usually go to Saratoga, NY but have been to Newport, RI, Cape May, NJ and thought Asheville would be fun. Looking for suggestions of B and B within walking distance to town. I am planning for next year. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

What is your budget? That will help with the lodging suggestions.
I think April will be a fabulous time to visit Asheville.

Budget info would help for sure. I have stayed at the Inn at Iris Meadows and can highly recommend it - great innkeepers, nice views of the mountains, spacious rooms and several common areas which will be nice for a group to hang out in. You can walk into town from it, although it is on a hill that may make the return trip feel a little longer. There are great restaurants in Asheville, also.

There is a trip report from a couple of days ago "Asheville Trip Report" by Joanel.

We are toward the middle range as far as cost but if there is a must stay place (B and B) we would consider it.

The Haywood Park Hotel is my favorite downtown place to stay. It is less than the Grove Park and more than a Comfort Suites. Lovely spot. Great restaurant, the Flying Frog, in the basement.

I just heard--not my personal experience--a very mixed review of the Grove Park Inn: great spa, great views, mediocre room furnishings and disappointing room size for the price.

That would be consistent with my opinion of the GPI. I go annually with a group and we get a great rate which makes it a good option for the group. When I go to Asheville on my own, I love the Haywood Park. Oh, and while the GPI spa is splendid, for less $$$ and super treatments (ask for Lisa) go to the Secret Garden Inn in Weaverville. Have lunch at Stoney Knob or the Well Bred Cafe. Great place.

PS, the GPI is not within walking distance of downtown for dinners out, etc.

Am going to look into the Haywood Park but still would love hearing of B and Bs in Asheville. Love the suggestion of the spa, since we all, even the men, usually end our weekend with a massage!
