"No one is endorsing Doubt too much". That's because this discussion seems to have totally focused on musicals. Doubt is not a musical. It won Tonys for best play on Broadway, best actress in a play, best director, and best featured actress. If you have even the slightest urge to see a non musical, by all means go see Doubt -- it is a great play and a great production. No, there are no tap dances, songs, or chorus lines. It is, however, surprisingly funny in addition to its powerful and dramatic story.

I echo Patrick's sentiments about Doubt. And, I think Patrick agrees that if you can only see one show on Broadway, you ought to give serious consideration to Doubt!

Well, I have no more doubts about Doubt! Thanks, Patrick and Howard!

You cannot miss The Producers. Itis fantastic and considering what you've liked in the past, I think you would like this one as well. Also, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, is also fantastic. Less of a Bway-ish, lavis production, more of just a great story, very funny, and true to life. Can't go wrong w/ either of these two.

Now that both "Who's afraid of Virginia Wolf" and "The Pillowman" have closed, "Doubt" is, without a doubt (ho-ho) the best 'serious' play on Broadway.

HowardR Sep 26th, 2005 10:52 AM

Jean, it was the best play on Broadway before those shows closed, as well!

Jean_Valjean Sep 26th, 2005 11:07 AM

I don't know... I saw all three, and I think that The Pillowman was more interesting, challenging and thought provoking. However, the acting in Doubt and Who's afraid... made them must-sees.

In any case, trying to rank these three plays would be (a little) like trying to rank the three best Beatles' songs... I thought all three were fantastic.

HowardR Sep 26th, 2005 11:19 AM

Hey Jean, I could rank the top three Beatles' songs......but I won't!

Jean_Valjean Sep 26th, 2005 11:35 AM

Well, everybody knows that the top three Beatles songs are "A Day in the Life", the medley in "Abbey Road" and "Dear Prudence". ;)
