Need help of return trip from Lake Placid
 

Hi-
For my trip back from Lake Placid to Baltimore, MD, I would like to take a scenic way back on some of the back roads through the Adirondacks. I would either like to spend the night in Syracuse or Binghamton, New York. Would Syracuse or Binghamton be a better town to spend the night? Which route would be better, Route 3 west to I-81 south or Route 30 south to Route 28 to I-90 in Utica? Which is more scenic?

Route 3 takes you through a number of different small towns through the Adirondacks, and you can take it all the way to I-81. I think that taking Route 30 to 28 to 90 to 81 will take you quite a bit longer.

Really? Which way is more scenic?

Route 3 is very scenic and rural, but you will drive through a number of once bustling Adirondack towns that are looking a little shabby now. The other way would be similar I think. I haven't taken the alternate route in a long time, as Route 3 is more direct for me.

Im trying to get to Binghamton. But, it does look like that way would be faster.
