Ok so I can't make a decision but I have narrowed it down to five B&B's in Newport..Marshall Slocum, Clarkston Inn, Hydrangea House, La Farge Perry and Melville House..comments on any of these??..thanks for your help.

Can't help you with b&bs. We stayed at the Francis Malbone and thought it was one of the best places we have ever stayed. But..without a doubt have dinner at Scales and Shells on Thames Street.

Lucky you going to Newport - can't help with your B&B choices (we stayed at The Inn at Shadow Lawn - loved it!!) but if you are looking a nice, reasonably priced place for Italian food try Puerini's at 24 Memorial Blvd. 401-847-5506.

Neuge, We must have similar tastes in inns. I'm considering some of the same inns that you've listed for my July trip. The Marshall Slocum I've discovered is exceptionally well run and in a nice quiet neighborhood. They have a "Gilded Package" thats really a bargain. The Melville has one of the best breakfasts, recently changed in hands and is on busy Clarke street. Hydrangea is also very nice and the owners really go out of their way for guests. The Clarkston didnt impress me as much as the others. I dont know anything about the La Farge Perry. Did you also check out the Artful Lodger?
Good luck with your trip plannin!

I loved the Adele Turner Inn. beautiful and less expensive than its sister properties CLiffside Inn and Abigail Stoneham Inn. Another vote for Scales and Shells restaurant. best seafood in newport!

Another vote for the Adele Turner Inn. Excellent location--just two blocks up from the waterfront area. We were able to walk to shops, restaurants, and of course, the mansions.

We stayed in the smallest, and therefore, the cheapest, room that they offer (two years ago on Memorial Day weekend it ran $135 per night, which we thought was great), but we did peek into some of the larger and more expensive rooms and all were quite uniquely decorated. The breakfast they served was wonderful--not just muffins and juice but a real, cooked-to-order breakfast, and afternoon tea was excellent as well. Off-street parking, too. I wouldn't hesitate to return there.
