Need help going by public transit from Penn Station to Brooklyn

Hi all. I need to get to the area of 13th ave and 37th street in Brooklyn this week, and I'm coming from the Philly area. I need to be there by 10am. My instincts are telling me not to drive, but to take Amtrak to Penn Station and then NYC transit. Thoughts? Also, I assume I should pick up the W line from Penn and then get off at the 9th ave stop in Brooklyn. Did I read the MTA maps correctly? Or do I still have a far walk? Thanks!

I do know you can take an N or R train that will take you to 36th St and 4th Ave. You could walk but it is a fairly long walk. A cab would be the best way but I don't know that many Yellow cabs ply their trade in that part of BRooklyn. 36th St is an express stop so "Gypsy" cabs could probably be found on 4th and 36th. To take the N or R you would have to exit Penn Station and walk one block east to Broadway.

The W runs the smae route as the N and R to the 36th Street station. The W then branches off and the stop after 36th St. is 9th Avenue - it isn't too much of a walk from there to your destination. I think you can get the W at the same station where you pick up the N or the R.If you decide to drive take the exit off the Jersey Turnpike that takes you to Staten Island (Exit 11 or 12???). Cross the Verranzanno Bridge and go straight ahead to Ft. Hamilton Parkway and it is a short straight run to 37th Street. It will be a block or two to 13th Ave.

Ann, Hope this is not too late. Are you going on weekdays or weekend? It makes a different in driving. Driving in on a weekday is not a good idea. If you decide to take the train, give youself plenty of time. (at least three hours from boarding the amtrak train to your destination in Brooklyn)
