Since flying over Thanksgiving is so expensive, we are looking to fly into Wilmington, DE. What is the best way to get to Manhattan? We do not need a car in the city, so renting seems silly since we will be there a week. Should we bus or train it? There will be 3 adults.

We will be traveling on Nov. 23 to NYC and returning on Nov 30 to Wilmington.

Have no idea where the airport is in Wilmington. The Amtrak ride is quick and there are trains very frequently. I know many people take bargain buses - I prefer trains since you can get up and walk around - and I don't know how the buses run from Wilmington.

Definitely take the train, but I'm not convinced with the cost of airfare and train it's going to be cheaper. It's far too early to find airfare sales for November. I'd chill for a couple of months before committing.

Is it much cheaper to fly to Wilmington compared with BWI or Newark? The Amtrak fare from BWI to NYP is $75/adult coach on the Northeast Regional. From Wilmington it is $60 but you'll probably spend $15 or more on the taxi from the airport to the Joe Biden station.
There is also an Amtrak station at the Newark airport (EWR).

I assume you will flying on Frontier. The Wilmington airport is only 5 miles south of Wilmington. You could easily get a taxi from there to the Amtrak station in Wilmington and take the train from there to NYC.

Thanks. We managed to find a reasonable airfare right into LGA. We are going straight there and straight home. Thanksgiving gets so crazy we just decided to jump on a 300 airfare ATL to NYC for that week end.

Add on the costs of getting to and from LGA but even with those I think you made the right decision.
