Need Help finding Affordable Boston hotel
 

Hello, I've been reading all the tips for visiting Boston in October. Great ideas! But I need help finding an affordable hotel. We are going mid-october...won't have a car....flying into Logan. Does anyone know somewhere fairly close to "everything" that is affordable (ie less than $200 / night?) i'm having a heck of a time. I'm finding many hotels have a 2 night min. - we will only be in town for 1 night. It's our first getaway from the little kids in 3 years! Any help will be greatly appreciated.

There is a huge convention in town from the 13-18th, FYI.

A huge convention, plus a few college parents' weekends, including MIT and BU, over Columbus Day weekend. Take whatever you can get!

stayed at newbury last year and loved it. great location, great breakfasts, nice staff.

We planned our trip, flying into Boston some time ago, but found available lodging on Columbus Day weekend at the Hyatt Harborside, but not the following weekend (13 & 14th). We just reversed the itinerary, starting in Boston, rather than ending there.

Have you tried the Days Inn in Sagus? They have free airport pickup and are about 8 mi. from Logan. They are next to the famous Hilltop Steak House.

We just stayed at the Midtown...$179. A bit dated, but clean & a good location.

Try the John Jeffries Inn. Most expensive room is $165 plus tax. They're booked Columbus Weekend (except Fri.) They do not require a two night minimun.

Don't forget Head of the Charles 3rd weekend in October, too. Virtually every hotel room in town will be booked!

Do you need a weekend or weekday night? That affects prices, too, sometimes dramatically.

You are facing an, I fear, impossible task. Boston University and MIT have Parents weekend Columbus Day weekend - if that is the time frame you are looking at. Also, just that weekend is a busy time. Add foliage seekers and Head of the Charles and mere availability at any cost is an issue.

You will likely have to give up either on cost or location - give us a hint which is more flexible and I will try to give some suggestions. Also, since it is only one night and you are flying, is it possible you are heading out somewhere else? If so, maybe you will have to skip the night in Boston.

Try the Constitution Inn. It's a little different, but adequate and has rooms last time I looked. They seem to have one night stays as well for under $200.

It's kind of a larger version of Motel 8 or a family YMCA whose primary mission is to serve military folks but anyone can stay there although non-military rates are higher. Read the reviews in TripAdvisor or similar site.

It's near the USS Constitution which means you must take a boat over to downtown Boston (I thought that was neat) or use a car or shuttle that seems to be available.

We love harborside Inn of bostn, right in the quincy market area. $204 a night on the october date we will be in town.
