Need Help Deciding on 20Year Anniversary Destination - CA, Mexico

We can only do a quick 3-4 day getaway for our 20 year anniversary. My choices are a cruise out of L.A. on Carnival to Ensenda, a flight to Cabo or Cancun, or a stay on Coronado Island in San Diego. We have never done travel to any of these destinations, or have been on a cruise. I am interested in hearing from others who may have and can offer opinions. Thanks!!

Cruise by all means!
It's fun. relaxing, you can meet some terrific people and see some great sites. I would definately recommend a cruise!

susu,

The cruise I was considering has only one stop in Ensenada for a day. In your opinion, is it worth spending so little time in Mexico and most of the time on the ship? Thanks!!

mumu

Only recently got the Travel Channel (okay...I live in backwater Oregon) at my house. Great stuff! Saw a program the other night about the 10 best beach resorts in Mexico. Several were in the Cabo area, but the one that most caught my attention was in Manzanillo...wish I could remember the names!

From Alanta, there is a direct flight to Cancun. We have stayed at the Marriott there and highly recommend it. The beaches in Cancun are the best I've ever seen! If your traveling from the western part of the US, I would stick with Coronado Island. I think in the summer Mexico would be hot! Cancun is a must in the winter. The humidity would be lower in CA. I think the weather would feel betterin CA in the summer.

What time of year are you planning on traveling? The daily thunderstorms in late summer aren't much fun in the late summer.

Re cruising - have never been on the Ensenada route but my impression has always been lots of young 20-somethings on a bargain cruise - maybe someone can tell me if I am wrong.

I'd choose Mexico - easy flight and go to a great hotel for romance. Plenty of great hotels.

Julie, Our twentieth is this year, also. Where are you coming from and what season? With only 3 to 4 days, you should make the travelling time as short as possible. Barring further information, I'm voting for Cabo or Coronado Island (assuming you don't have to fly to get to Coronado Is).

Give us more info so we can help better.

tell us when you are going.
i've heard the cruise to ensenada is a very young criuse with lots of parting. i personally don't like ensenada and would not be too excited about that as a destination. very busy tourist town.
cabo gets mixed reviews. a lot of people say it is way over priced and the time share pressure can get tiring.
coronado is a lovely place for a 3-4 day get away. i think that would be my suggestion if a city is what you want - great restaurants, good beaches (water is usually too cold to swim in)...most people recommend the hotel del or the marriott.

check out cruisecritic.com pretty active forum that could probably give you reviews of the ensenada 4 day cruise.

How about Catalina Island? Off the coast by LA. My husband and I love to go there-we will be celebrating our 25th. It makes you feel as though you are in Mexico or somewhere else, without ever leaving the country. We will stay at the Wrigley Mansion this time.

To all:

Thank you! and I've had a change of heart--After further consideration, I'm now thinking of heading to the PNW San Juan Islands for a variety of reasons- turns out the husband isn't too thrilled about Coronado Island, and I went to the Mexico forum where I found a lot of negative reviews about Mexico, overall, not to mention it is hurricane season when we will be going (Sept. for those of you who asked!)

Mjanes: We just got back from Catalina for my 40th and had a blast--and while at the private beach area, we saw Nicholas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley!!

Nicholas Cage and Lisa Marie haven't been together for quite some time, so I doubt they've been lounging around catalina together lately.
