Need help choosing a nice, romantic hotel in St. Louis
 

My husband and I will celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary next month. We will be back in St. Louis visiting family during this time, and my sister offered to watch our infant twin daughters overnight so we can celebrate our anniversary. I was born and raised in the St. Louis area (on the IL side) and moved to Charlotte, NC about 3 years ago. Because I lived there I have never stayed in any of the hotels.

We are looking for something kind of luxurious and romantic. I'm not usually one to stay in fancy hotels because when we travel we spend little time in the room, but this is a special occassion and will be our first (and last for a long time!) night away from our girls since their birth in November. We are mainly looking at the downtown area, but will also consider other locations within reasonable distance to downtown. I was originally looking at the Chase Park Plaza but it seems to get somewhat mixed reviews on Trip Advisor and to be honest the rooms don't really look like anything special on their website. Am I wrong? We are also considering the Westin and the new Four Seasons, as well as the Moonstruck Hotel in the loop area. Are these nice? Any other suggestions? We are open to B&Bs as well.

I've been for dinner twice in the restaurant in the Moonrise, it's called Eclipse. http://www.eclipsestlouis.com/

Food is so-so, there are certainly better places to eat. But the restaurant and the lobby are beautiful, Joe Edwards did a great job. There is a rooftop bar that should be open soon, I assume, since the weather has been so nice.

Since I live here, I'm really not the best person to ask about hotels since I never stay in them, but I have to assume if you get a decent rate at the Moonrise, it would be a nice place to stay.

I second the Moonrise. We went there for our 10th anniversary last fall and really enjoyed it... it's a boutique hotel on the loop in University City with a planetary motif...but not too kitschy. The rooftop deck is very nice and there's a lot nearby. If you guys really want to live it up, the Four Seasons downtown looks amazing. It has a very swanky terrace bar w/ swimming pool that overlooks the river, arch and downtown. The restaurant there, Cielo, is tops. A friend has used the spa there, and really liked it.

The Moonrise does get really good reviews on Trip Advisor and looks funky but not tacky kitschy. This must be pretty new because we frequented the loop enough when we lived there and definitely don't remember a hotel like this one.

The Four Seasons does look nice, but we don't usually stay in places like this so I'm wondering if its pretentious? I don't really want to stay anywhere where I would feel uncomfortable just walking through the lobby. I know this is probably a silly concern, but as I said above we aren't usually the type to stay in luxury hotels, generally preferring to stay in smaller boutique hotels or pensions (when abroad) as they tend to add more flavor. But since this is a special occassion, and the price isn't too exhorbant, it is on the consideration list.

I was going to chime and say the Chase park Plaza. My parents stayed there on their Anniversary and it was lovely.

But, I think you made a great decision - it is fun and fresh and very cool I hear!!
I have not been yet. Maybe we can have a Fodorite GTG on your anniversary!!! Just kidding!!

I would love to do a GTG! Maybe not on my anniversary though... :) We are thinking about going to the afternoon game on the 13th, which is our anniversary date. The Cards will be playing Houston and we haven't been to a game in quite awhile.
