need help!
It has been awhile since I have been on, but what I wanted is any suggestions on places to go this summer. My husband and I live in PA., have 2 grown kids(out of HighSchool who MAY go with us????), we are looking for new ideas maybe with in a 6,7 hours drive form western PA. not too fancy, but lots of things to do.. we just seem to be out of ideas, either we did it already or just does not interest us. We love out doors, museums, going out to eat, shows, sports..... a nice variety of things. so, who has a good( different ) idea? Thanks all :-)

Well, what have you already done? We have no idea what would be a new/different idea for you.
Have you been to the Historical triangle? Williamsburg/Jamestown/Yorktown? Lots to do there or what about NYC, or Wash D.C. We need more info from you. |
My first thought was NYCity as well. DC is a good option and so is the suggestion to go to Williamsburg, maybe combo it with a few days at the beach.
Montreal/Quebec would be a nice trip with lots to do and see. Tell us more about what you have done. |
We did do NYC awhile back for a week and just loved it! we have done williamsburgh,V.Beach, Ocean city MD., we were thinking of DC.. do you all think there is enough to do there for about 4 days to a week? We did Mackinaw Island ( Michigan), myrtle Beach we did a lot of the bigger parks, like Cedar point, kings dominion.... to name a few..
Our son went to chicago with some buddies over spring break and really did not like it especially for a whole week, he thought it was a little pricey..even for a large city ( he thought worse then NYC) . If anyone out there did go to DC recently any suggestions on a good hotel? Thank you again for all the help!!! :-) |
If you like museums 4 days will be doable in Washington DC.We stayed at the Charlton hotel. It's only two blocks from the mall and the W.House in a safe neighbourhood, near the FBI building.Paul

I don't know if this appeals to your grown kids or not, and as they may or may not go, here's an idea: ---- my husband and I (kids grown and gone) are planning a trip to Michigan to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village http://www.hfmgv.org/ and also may stop at Frankenmuth Village http://www.frankenmuth.org/. We are in the Pittsburgh area and have heard some great things about both of these destinations.
|
Toronto is an easy drive. Along the way you can stop at The Chautauqua Institution and see that nothing there has changed in 100 years; PeeknPeak is a resort, Buffalo and Niagara Falls....
|
If you live in PA and have never been to the nation's capital, that's where you should go. You could easily spend a week in DC and environs without running out of things to do.

First I want to thank everyone for their ideas, I have started looking into DC. To swaymock, you should go to HF museum, and to frakenmuth, also add Mackinaw Island (also in michigan). We did this trip 2 years ago and just loved it!!! We did ours on Lenzner bus tours, the price was great and plenty of just " US " time. Have a safe summer all! :-)
