The bakery Kal is referring to is La Boulangerie'...I won't use the word yummy... but they do have wonderful pastries and it's a great place for people watching!

They made a lemon cake years ago that was incredible! (It was served at one of my bridal showers!)

A Fresno post with 42+ replies. Who'd have thunk it? :)

Thanks for the additional info.

Hey Billj, I just thought of another reason that Fresno might get a bad rap. It's all of those envelopes that we have to address:

IRS
Fresno, CA 93888 :s

I know this is an old post but now you've got me worried after reading it. My daughter just booked the Radisson (through Tavelocity, so she can't cancel) because it was close to where she needs to be for a grad thesis project at a museum. Everyone is saying DON'T stay downtown! So now I wonder about her safety. Any comments? Thanks!

How funny to read through this 2-year old post. After all those questions I asked, we ended up staying at that Radisson because we needed to spend 2 days from 8am-8pm in that Convention Center. It really isn't a bad hotel. I remember the restaurant there being pretty decent also. We ended up eating most of our meals there because of our schedule.

We didn't get out much, just a quick side trip to the mall and Fig Gardens. I didn't necessarily feel unsafe in the area around the Radisson, it just seemed to be an abandoned, desolate area. I'm sure it will be fine for your daughter, especially if there is an event at the convention center.

Hello sjde53. Since your daughter is already locked into the radisson, that's that. Like lvk says, it still feels abandoned and desolate downtown.

(Hey, lvk, thanks for coming back in. I've always wondered how you survived your weekend in our fair city.)

Don't know when your daughter will be here, whether alone or with a crowd, whether with car or not, but all of what I said above is still pretty accurate, except: Upstairs, Downtown, the nice restaurant downtown, is now closed, as is Lantana and Slate.
But we now have a Ruths Crisp, up at River Park, though personally I prefer Flemings for that special dinner.
There's a few little coffee shops around downtown, but other than the Radisson, don't know of anyplace to eat there, except the restaurant at the Club One, a cardroom. Pretty popular place with the attorneys downtown for lunch, (The restaurant, not the cardroom.) and for people on jury's.

The Clovis rodeo is weekend of April 24, check www.clovisrodeo.com

Our baseball team is up and going this year, Fresno Grizzlies. The downtown park is real user friendly and only a few blocks from the Radisson. Good ballpark type food.

Fresno State's Men' Baseball and Ladies Softball are in full swing at this time. Great stadiums out at the college.

Check out the Saroyan Theater for the dates she will be there. Right across the street and has some really great shows and concerts from time to time.

Hope she enjoys. If you have any questions, be glad to try to answer. This thread started couple years ago, but things don't seem to change much here. Kind of the way we like it.
