Need Boson restaurant with good vegetarian menu items.

Will be in Boston next weekend with our vegetarian daughter. Any mid to upscale restaurant suggestions around the Ritz or a bit beyond with a decent selection of vegetarian entrees.

You all might like Fire and Ice (fire-ice.com). Diners select produce, protein and rice/noddle items from huge buffet area, select a sauce and then they cook it for you while you watch on a big flat surface. Has been a good choice when we are dining with carnivores and vegetarians. Nice atmosphere, but more fun than upscale.

Locations in Boston and Cambridge.

You might also check out the Ivy on Temple St near the theater district. It's Italian tapas so very easy to find vegetarian items.

there is a bostonveg.org site that lists some, but not all -you might try that site. Also this link lists many also - although some you might want to chekc and make sure they are still open -

I believe yahoo travel also has a list.

I find most restaurants today have at least a few vegetarian options or if it is mid to upscale are willing to accomodate. You can also check on opentable.com or menupages.com (boston site) and see the menus at various restaurants and on opentable make your reseravation at the same time, saving you phone calling long distance.

If she eats fish then you're in luck. Most Boston restaurants are pretty heavy on the fish and seafood.

Or, you could try an Italian restaurant. I recommend Via Matta (79 Park Plaza) for not too expensive but really good food and a very nice atmosphere. They also have a great wine list if that is of interest to you.

(Sharona - vegetarians don't eat fish!)

Gailscout -

The following restaurants either have vegetarian items on the menu or have made adjustments at the diners request. Haven't been to any of these but found at recommendation of Chowhound.

Mistral

Tremont 647

a little further out (Cambridge) is Olena which is very well regarded, has vegetarian items on the menu, and also has a vegetarian Tasting menu.

HI--I was not going to say anything, but since beanweb brought it up...that is one of the pet peeves of my 20- something vegetarian....the idea that some "vegetarians" eat fish or even chicken...however, of course the vegans don't consider the ovo-lactos true vegetarians either, so I guess it is open to one's interpretation.

Thanks for all the great suggestions; I look forward to trying some of them out and then leaving the list with our daughter who has moved to Portsmouth.

I love Oleana! The woman chef has won many praises such as in "Food and Wine"
In Summer the garden is very special.
