Need advice with New England
I am traveling from 9/26 - 10/9 with my elderly father, aunt and uncle. We are flying into Boston, and out of NYC, and have planned the following itinerary. I haven't booked any rooms yet, and realize I am may be disappointed in that respect, but would like some advice on what I have chosen. Here are my plans. I would appreciate any ideas.. I am definitely open for suggestions. We are on a somewhat limited budget. $100 -150. / (or less) for rooms.
Thanks a bunch! Barb Boston - 3 nights Kennebunkport- 1 night Bar Harbor - 1 night Stowe, VT 2 nights Stockbridge,MA 2 nights Hyde Park, NY 2 nights NYC 3 nights |
Wel- i am a bit adventurous when it comes to miles logged in a day but the Kennebunk to Bar Harbor to Stowe. Thats a bit tough for me to swallow.
Bar Harbor/Acadia is great but cannot do in one day with all that driving and then get to Stowe for next evening. I think TOO much. Maybe Kennebunk and then a bit more direct route to VT?? a spot in NH?? |
Oops- I left one out! How about
Bar Harbor to Bethel, Me then, to Stowe? Is that more doable? |
Couldn't agree more. You'll need a stop between bar harbor and Stowe. Maybe a stop in NH White mountains. The Kankamugu(sp??)
Highway is great for foliage, aalthough I'm not sure if its on the way. Maybe cut Stowe down to one night? |
Yes, sticking Bethel, ME between Bar Harbor and Stowe is more doable, but honestly you may want more than a day in Bar Harbor, especially if you want to see Acadia. I would rather take 2 days in Bar Harbor than 2 days in Stowe. Don't get me wrong, Stowe is lovely, but more than two days there would be overkill, while I can't say the same for Bar Harbor.

$100-150/night will be quite the challenge for Boston, Stowe and Stockbridge, along with Hyde Park and NYC, that time of year. And, many accomodations will require three-night minimum stay.
