need advice to rent a car for a day

Hello.
Heading out to San Francisco soon where I won't have a car. I will want to make a couple of day trips. Can anyone recommend a good way or place to rent for a day trip that is relatively inexpensive? I say way because a friend had said that doing it by computer yields a better price.
Thanks,
Loika

Use Enterprise--they will pick you up from your hotel at no additional charge. Look at Travelzoo.com for any coupons.

Or if you will use the car prior to June 30th, use the code MAYEML for 10% off.

I usually check Yahoo travel to see what prices are avalible through them. There are several rental companies located within SF itself rather than at the airport, so just type in the address of your hotel and the web site will display rental companies near your hotel. Then check directly with the rental companies near your hotel by going to their web sites. Compare prices and see what is a better deal. You can check expedia and orbitz as well.

Enterprise will pick you up wherever you are. Other companies may offer free shuttles as well or may be located within walking distance of your hotel. You just have to do a little research.

Also, before you leave home, call your auto insurance company and your credit card to see what type of coverage you have on rental cars. If you don't have enough insurance coverage you will have to purchase insurance through the rental agency. This insurance can be pretty pricey - as much or more than the rental price itself - so you can save some money if you are already covered through your own insurance or credit card.

I sawe a local rental place near Union Square that had a great price for Toyota Corolla rentals - can't recall the name but they were in a convenient location and I recall that they were cheaper than the major rental companies.
