Need advice regarding 4th July at SFO
Hi everyone,
Need some help from locals!! I am flying out of SFO on 4th July, at midnight. Which gives me just about enough time to see the fireworks then leave. However this is where the problem is. If I try to watch the fireworks from fishermans wharf i've been told it can easily take an hour or two to get out of there. Fireworks are at 930pm and my flight is at 1150pm. I don't want to take the chance of missing the flight since everyone will be rushing to catch the Bart and there'll be long lines. I planned on leaving my luggage at my hotel in union square till it was time to go but now I am not sure what to do. Any suggestions or ideas as to how I can go about watching the fireworks and not get caught with the crowds? Thank you! |
Assuming the fireworks last til 10pm. You first need to get to hotel, how are you going to get there? That could take 30 mins on a good nigh, way more after the fireworks. Then how are you going to get to airport? Assuming you take a taxi, that might take about 30 minutes. That puts your at the airport at maybe 11 pm. And I don't think any of those times are realistic. I doubt there will be long security lines at that hour, but are you willing to risk it?

From what I hear they'll block out most of public access around wharf area (I mean cabs etc) so could easily take 1/2 hr back to hotel in best case. And then a cab out of here, will that have to go through the pedestrian traffic of fireworks or is that a different route?
Is it feasible to watch fireworks from an alternate area? I am also open to the idea of catching the Bart to the airport. But it'll be risky if I try to catch from wharf area since everyone will be trying to do that...sigh Do you know if one can be at the view lounge at Marriott marquee (buy a drink) and watch fireworks? I'd hate to miss them while I am here... Any other viewpoints? |
Top of the Mark would work, not sure if you could get a table on such short notice, but you might be able to see from bar area.
The taxi from hotel would not go to SFO and be near FW area. |
Hi debit
When u say taxi would not go to SFO and be near fw area do u mean I won't have to cross fw if heading to SFO from union sq? |
Yes, I am saying that taking a taxi from the Union Square area to SFO will not go anywhere near Fishermans' Wharf. It will get on 80 and then 101 heading in opposite direction.

Ok gotcha.
So taxi from union square or shuttle. Now all that remains is where to see the fireworks from. |
