My hub and I also stayed at Renaissance pre-JHU operation. They had medical rates and we were pleased.
Forgot to mention the Hippodrome. Had that re-opened when you were in Bmore? It's a nice theatre now-can't remember what's playing.
There's a nice bistro called "B" up in the MICA area. Very good food.

If you want to stay in the city, we used to stay at the Tremont Park because they have nice suites and complimentary breakfast. Parking, too, which is relatively cheap. I think they offer transportation to Hopkins, but I'm not sure they still do that. They have a sister property, the Tremont Plaza. These two places used to have great prices. They are older more charming properties (assuming management is still keeping them up like they used to).
Otherwise, we'd stay in Towson at the Sheraton. Always a sure bet and free parking.
The best restaurant we found in Baltimore was called Saffron. It was new about two years ago, and we went there for a college graduation celebration. It was amazing.

Thanks for the updates. Hampden definitely was not a destination when I lived in Baltimore, lol....I think it was just a neighborhood. I haven't decided about having a car rental yet but I think it might be nice to have at least for 2-3 of the 5 days. Rates are high (about $32/day for a compact and parking is soooo expensive at these hotels)
Great to know about the Tremonts! I think the meeting has it as one of the primary hotels and there MAY be transportation/shuttle provided. I think I can get rates there for around $109 and the Renaissance for $199. I'll figure it out and book one of the two as my safety.
All these recommendations are really whetting my appetite for reexploring Charm City!

Sad to hear of the demise of that institution, Dancing Bear. There was a great cozy breakfast place in that general area called The Morning Edition. Anyone know if that is still operational?
