Need advice on choosing between these two NYC hotels
 

Hello, <BR> <BR>My husband and I have reservations at two NYC hotels for the week of Thanksgiving. Great prices for both-only $159/night at each. <BR>Has anyone stayed at either the Shoreham hotel, on W. 55th street, or the Crowne Plaza @ U.N.? <BR>I'm trying to choose between the two and am having trouble, so any input from Fodorites would be appreciated! <BR>Thanks, <BR>Renee

What will be the nature of your activities while in town? The Shoreham is a more convenient location relative to the Theatre District and many of the popular tourist sites. If you plan to use the subway for some of your travels there is only the 4,5,6 line on the east side whereas the Shoreham willbe closer to a number of different lines(it is much faster and easier thsan cabs during most daytime hours and especially during rush hours). I know nothing of the hotels but based on location I'd be inclined to choose the Shoreham. Crowne Plaza is in a very nice area and there are plenty of good resturants within reasonable distance but it's still a bit of a hike to other things.

I would agree with the above post. The UN is all the way over on the East Side, and is a hike to anything else that you might want to do, other than the UN, lol.

I think the W55 area is more interesting <BR>You can easily walk to Central Park from there, the Columbus Avenue area, the natural History museum, of course, theatre district. walk the other way & you are in the garment district, macy*s, chelsea, nohon, soho! You can hop on a bus, subway etc. easier to hail a cab than east side in my opinion. More affordable restaurants.

Thanks very much everyone! I definitely prefer to be closer to most of the sites, so it looks like the Shoreham will be the better choice.

Stayed there a couple months ago...but not for that rate!!!!I felt it was not worth the close to $300 we spent due to a mix-up we had at the Warwick (our fault). There was still a lot of remodeling going on and it still was rough (for the price). The atmosphere was jazzy and we got a CD with our room. Seems like there were a lot of advertising young professionals there.It was a great location for walking.I guess it was memorable, but not my "cup of tea". We preferred the Waldorf and got a great rate(on line) earlier in our trip.
