Need Advice - Hotel Res Mistake

Can you give me some advice?

I made hotel reservations for my husband and daughter in NY the week after Christmas through Yahoo travel. Unfortunately, I had a senior moment and realized immediately AFTER I hit the "confirm" button, that I had made the reservations in MY name - and I'm not coming along on this trip.

I emailed Yahoo travel; they said tough luck, no names changes to reservation. I thought about calling the hotel directly, but I don't think that Yahoo releases the res info to the hotel until a few days before the guest arrives. Then I considered getting a new reservation and canceling the old, but in the hour it took getting a response from Yahoo, rates went up $80 a night.

Any idea what to do? I know that some of you currently work/have worked hotel front desks. What happens if they show up with a reservation but not the person who's name is on the reservation?

I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.

I do believe they're more interested in the name on the credit card and will be more than willing to give the room to whomever shows up.

I don't think this is a problem at all.
Call the hotel a couple of days or the day of check in and tell them you need to add a name to your reservation so he can check in.
I do it all the time because family often decides to join me on trips at the last minute and usually beat me to the hotel.
The only thing is that you may have to wait until the day of or the day before check in because Yahoo may not give the data to the hotel right away.
:)
Don't worry about it.

A hotel reservation isn't like a plane ticket where the names have to match. I have made hotel bookings for others in the past - and no problems. You should be fine.

I travel all the time for work. Our admin will sometimes book a block of rooms under her name. It's not a big deal.

Agree with calling the hotel in advance. Should not be an issue!

And name on credit card used to book does not have to match anything either. The name on credit card presented at check-in needs to match guest, but that is all.

Do not know if husband and daughter have same last name as you (mine do not) - but I have made reservations all the time for family members in my name without problem.

I've booked Priceline rooms (precharged to credit card) and had friends/ coworkers who arrived before me who wanted to get into the room before I actually checked in. All I had to do was call the front desk and add their name to the room reservation. They had to present a credit card to get the key, but I just added my cc at my checkin and made sure the room charges were applied to the correct credit card.

Just add the other name(s) to the reservation and they will be able to check in without any problem.
