I too have been finding the prices outrageous.
I checked the areas you are talking about and most places are pretty booked especially on saturdays and the rates for the rooms are unbelievable especially in the sarasota and lido beach area.
You may want to look at Sirata Beach resort in St. Pete. That is where we will probably have ours.

sleepybears, the first and second weeks of April are very expensive because it is Easter schools are out.

If you can postpone until the third week in April you will see a drastic drop in rates.
