Need a Top Notch Restaurant in Big D
I need help, folks. Entertaining a very important client from Britain who is flying into Dallas to meet me. I really need a recommendation on a great top-notch restaurant there. No, no chain places or anything with a remote risk of bad service. I need a place with good ambience, mature enough for conversation (i.e. no muzak), impeccable food (I'd like to impress with some fine cuisine) and absolutely perfect service, no expense spared. Best of the best, and I'd like to go into the evening with a diversity of cuisine to choose from so any personal recommendation of a truly great dining house of any variety would be much appreciated.
HELP! Thank you.

A bit more to the request. First off, in addition to any other cuisine suggestion you might have (and which I might very well be relying on for a perfect dining experience) I would especially like to have a world class continental French restaurant that someone in the know could personally recommend to me, knowing the Brits love of continental cuisine.
And, the dining house has to have a bar, you know, a nice place to imbibe both before and after the meal.
THANKS much, and whomever has a personal recommendation for a reliably outstanding dinner house will be forever in my debt!!

The French Room at the Aldophus off Commerce Street. It is THE best resturant in the city. It has an extensive wine list and offers more than typical French food. Of course it is very expensive, expect to pay at least $200 for the two of you to dine, but worth every penny.

What about III Forks or Star Canyon for some upscale Texas flavor...word is that Mick Jagger and his crew dined there when he was in Dallas. They have some private rooms...maybe you could get one of those. I don't know if it would be fancy enough though. III Forks is very nice. I also second the French Room suggestion.

The nicest resturant I have ever eaten at in Dallas is the Old Warsaw. It is located very close to Downtown next to the Cresent. Here is a web site I found with a discription.

The other that I would suggest is the resturant at the top of the Adam's Mark Hotel, The Chapparal.
I hope your dinner goes better that you expect.

Thanks folks, I appreciate the input here. Using the dinesite.com link that quadruple a suggested as a sneak peek at Old Warsaw, I also perused the menu of the French Room.
Both places sound fantastic, and through pure democratic logic I'll have my local contact get us into the French Room this Friday night. The Old Warsaw also piqued my interest, and being an aficianado of continental cuisine perhaps I'll pay a visit there as well while I'm in the city since the Man is paying the bill.
I'll post a follow up on how things went. Thanks again for taking the time out to offer up the suggestions. Hopefully I can sell my wares to this foreign gent and bring some money home into our local economy.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned "the best of the best", The Mansion on Turtle Creek ! It's both a top of the line hotel with a fine restaurant, led by the reknown chef Dean Fearing. Don't get me wrong, you'll get a fabulous meal at the French Room (check Zagat's site to see comments/ratings on both restaurants) --- but if I was entertaining someone from Britain, I'd definitely take them to the Mansion. Service is impeccable. Whenever anyone of note comes into Dallas, it's the Mansion that they go to for eating and/or accommadations. Plus, he's likely had a few 5-star French meals and they probably were in Paris --- as good as the French Room is, I don't know if can rival their hometown cuisine. Second, the cuisine of the Mansion is southwestern, and I doubt he'll find a tortilla soup in London or match their version.
Trust me --- get reservations at The Mansion.

I just wanted to thank you all for the great advice. Lil-Tex, I took your suggestion and got us seated at the Mansion at Turtle Creek. I viewed the menu on a website and thought that a varied menu with a little Americana would be more intriguing for my client.
It was lovely, a really nice experience, and a very impressive meal. From the first sip I took of the soup I knew I was in for something special, and it was.
Out of curiousity I went to The French Room the night after with my local colleague in Dallas, and had another breathtaking dinner.
My review, The Mansion has the better menu in my opinion, more creative, more fusion. However, The French Room had the better service... perfect service, the kind that makes you feel like your waiter is carefully watching your body language and knows the subtle look that someone makes when he is in need of something.
Thanks folks, for the great advice, and for a couple of the best dining experiences I've ever had.
