Need a nice restaurant between Detroit and Cleveland

We need a nice place to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday half way between Detroit and Cleveland this coming Saturday. There will be two families converging in the middle. It has to be family friendly. I would prefer something traditionally nice. Like an older established place on the water more than a pricey chain steak house. I'm thinking of something like this older restaurant in an inn we go to on the water in Michigan. We also need to be able to linger and visit.

Maybe something fun for the kids to do in the afternoon would be good too. I've been searching, but haven't found it yet. I was getting excited about Saunders Village, but then mapped it and found it was out of the way for all of us.

Have you thought about Port Clinton or even Put-In-Bay? The ferry is still running (I think it takes about 20 minutes) and I'm sure there are a few restaurants there to pick from plus more 'things to do.' Otherwise you might be limited to Toledo - There might be somep0lace nice to dine near the Art museum or the Zoo.

I was kind of looking at Sandusky. I will check Put-In-Bay. I haven't been there in 100 years.

There used to be a nice winery called Monimee (sp?) near Catawba. Not sure if it is still open though. They served seafood and steaks.

In Toledo, there is Mancy's (steak, very good, but pricey) Cousino's (family friendly, nice atmosphere wide menu) in the eastern suburb of Northwood, Navy Bistro downtown on the waterfront.

Thanks for the Toledo recommendations. I've found a Cousino's Steakhouse in Oregon. Is that the one? Family friendly would be very good. The eastern suburbs of Toledo would be perfect. I think Port Clinton is too far.

Thanks!

Yes that's it. They have a nice buffet on Sundays but I usually get the small sirloin steak. It's been around along time. It's family friendly.

They also have a party room. You can give them a call to reserve if you have many people coming.

Navy Bistro is in downtown Toledo (not far from Cousino's). It is owned by the same family, but is a little more dressy.

PS: Sorry about the delay in responding-our power has been out since Sunday from the windstorm in Ohio

Oh goodness, reservations! I was thinking I had this thing all planned. Thanks for reminding me! I will call them today.

I think we are going to a pumpkin farm/hayride place in Oregon first and then to the Cousino's after. Thanks so much for your help!!!

Oh, and glad your power is back on. My sister-in-law lost the giant tree in her yard. Since Sunday! Yikes. That would blow.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks Katie! The dinner was great. My mother-in-law was sooo surprised. She was really wondering why we drove all the way to Toledo to go to a pumpkin patch when my brother-in-law and their family arrived. It was great. Thanks!
