Need a Las Vegas hotel 1/5 - 1/7
Hubby suddenly decided he wants to go to the Computer Electronics Show in Vegas - and now we can't find a room for less than 500.00 a night. Any suggestions? We need 2 rooms - friends are traveling with us. I know its the busiest weekend of the year in Vegas, but I always hold out hope of some wonderful Fodorite to guide me!
p.s. I tried all the usual sites - Expedia, etc.

Palace Station, which is not too far from the convention center, has rooms available on their web site at $289 per night. Check www.palacestation.com.
The consumer electronics show is huge and nearby rooms are almost always sold out or very expensive for its run.
I usually stay at Palace Station if I need to remain overnight in LV. Most times, rooms are easily available under $50 and it's a nice place.

I guess I'm lucky, I'm there on the 8th and got a room for $40.
When is he going out there? If he arrives the 4th and leaves the 8th the average rate drops pretty drastically (Tropicana for $250/night). I checked the Sahara, and their website states you cannot arrive on the 5th (they require a prior day stay), so my guess is most every hotel is the same and that's why you're finding such high rates. If he can go out on the 4th it would be cheaper to pay for the extra day.

You're pretty much out of luck if you want to stay on the Strip. It's almost impossible to get cheap rooms that weekend. Your best bet might be to try something in Downtown, or one of the less "popular" Strip hotels such as the Stratosphere or Sahara.
