Need A/C in Maine in August?

We have a third floor room booked at a midcoast B and B in mid-aug. Wondering if we will need airconditioning at night. (The b and b doesn't have a/c so we can still cancel and try to find a place with a/c_.

The temperatures in August vary.Of course, the chances are better that it won't be super hot at night in Maine, than say, Florida. What I do when I travel is to bring along a small fan. More often than not, I don't use it in the northeast, but I have needed it on occasion, and was VERY glad that I'd planned ahead! You might ask the b&b if your room has a ceiling fan, or at least if they can provide with you with a portable fan so you won't have to pack one. Most b&b establishments look out for the comfort of their guests.Good luck!

Fran, another point: you didn't say if the b&b is located directly on the coast or not. If it is located by the water, it is likely be considerably cooler and more pleasant on a hot summer night, than if it is located inland.

It's the Pentagoet Inn in Castine Maine so if anyone is familiar with it, maybe you can advise on the a/c issue.

Two years ago we were in Maine in August and it was so hot that we coulddn't sleep at night. To end our suffering we went to our car, turn A/C on and tried to sleep there. We stayed in B&B.<BR>I live in NH and like New Englander usually I don't need a/c but once a while it is almost impossible to enjoy our lives here without it. It is your vacation Fran so why won't you go for your personal comfort and find a place that has one. You already had this idea.

A few years ago we experienced a heat wave in August in Maine. The hotel had air conditioning, but it wasn't working. When we inquired, they responded that they so rarely use the a/c, so repairs were seldom made. We sweltered, even with the windows open. If you are there during a hot period (which often occurs), you will be uncomfortable.

Thanks, everyone. While the Pentagoet Inn in Castine looks wonderful, we will cancel and switch to a place with a/c.
