Need a baby seat in Hawaii????
Does anyone know if you need a baby seat for Hawaii? We are going to Kauai in July with 20 month old. We might be renting a car - do we need a car seat? Should I bring my own or rent one? What about taxis, do you need a car seat for the baby or will they let you go on without?
Can't find any info on that anywhere. Thanks for the advice. |
Hi Bellezza! Doing a quick google search I have found that yes, children weighing less than 50 pounds must be in a child safety seat or booster seat. You can usually get them from the rental company but I would call to confirm one.

It is STRONGLY recommended that you purchase a separate seat for your child, particularly on such a long flight. If you do have a separate seat, then you should bring your car seat along. However, there is no law stating that you buy a separate seat for children under two - it is just highly advised by the FAA, AAP etc.
Even if you do not have a separate seat, I would bring the car seat anyways for your car rental or for taxis. I have traveled 6 times in the past year with my 15 mo old and have always brought along the car seat just in case. It really isn't that much trouble to carry - just hook it on to the back of the stroller. The car seat can easily be gate checked. |
BYOC - if you know what I mean.

You need the car seat in cars, but not in Taxis. Most, but not all car rental cos have them for a price.

We are taking our 14 mo. old grandchild to Kauai this summer. You do have to have a car seat, but I hear the ones from the car rental agencies are grungy, so we are bringing one from home. Wrapping it in a garbage bag to keep it clean, and sending it through with the luggage. Checking the umbrella stroller at the gate.
