You could visit Parliment hill and go watch the "kids at play" in government. The Byward Market area is very nice too. Lots of trendy shops and pubs. Check out www.ottawakiosk.com

We truly enjoyed The National Art Gallery (free admission too!). Its Gift Shop was also great. The Museum of Civilization was okay but, we felt, over-rated. As mentioned above, the Byward Market is a wonderful place to stroll and eat. It's a lively, bustling and fun atmosphere. Be sure to stop for "Beaver Tails" - a delicious pastry unique to this area. There's always a line-up but it moves quickly. If the weather is nice, a walk along the Rideau is lovely. The Sparks Street Pedestrian Mall is a good place to browse for jewellery from local artisans. All the restaurants and pubs in the area have outdoor patios, which are great for a break and people-watching. And the Hull Casino is only 2.5 miles from Parliament Hill. (It ain't Vegas but we really enjoyed ourselves!)
